Day 3: Managing Potassium and Phosphorus in Renal Diets
On the final day of Nutritional Week, we focus on the importance of monitoring potassium and phosphorus levels in patients with kidney disease.
When kidney function declines, these minerals can accumulate in the blood, potentially leading to complications affecting the heart, muscles, and bones.
Key Dietary Tips:
-Limit high-potassium foods such as bananas, oranges, potatoes, and tomatoes.
-Reduce intake of phosphorus-rich foods like dairy products, nuts, beans, and dark-colored sodas.
-Choose lower-potassium fruits such as apples, grapes, and berries.
-Use alternatives such as rice milk (non-enriched) instead of regular dairy milk.
Patients are encouraged to consult their dietitian or healthcare provider for individualized dietary advice. Proper mineral management is essential for maintaining balance and preventing complications in renal disease.

As we conclude Nutritional Week, we reflect on the important role that nutrition plays in maintaining kidney health and supporting treatment outcomes.
Dietary principles are vital in helping to preserve kidney function, control symptoms, and improve overall quality of life for patients living with kidney disease.
We encourage all patients to:
-Consult their renal dietitian or healthcare provider for personalized dietary advice
- Make gradual, sustainable dietary changes
- Stay informed and proactive about their health
Good nutrition is not just a diet - it is part of your treatment plan. Thank you for joining us in promoting kidney health through better nutrition.

Day 2: Reducing Sodium for Better Kidney Health
During Nutritional Week, we emphasize the importance of limiting sodium (salt) intake for individuals with renal impairment.
Excess sodium can lead to fluid retention, increased blood pressure, and swelling, all of which can worsen kidney disease.

Practical Recommendations:
-Avoid processed and convenience foods such as canned soups, deli meats, and salty snacks.
-Do not add extra salt to food at the table.
-Use herbs, spices, lemon, or garlic to enhance flavor instead of salt.
-Read nutrition labels -aim for products with less than 140 mg of sodium per serving.
A low-sodium diet supports better blood pressure control and reduces strain on the kidneys.

This week, we join the health community in celebrating Nutritional Week, highlighting the vital role that nutrition plays in kidney health.
For individuals living with kidney disease, making informed dietary choices is a key part of treatment and overall well-being. The right nutrition can help:
-Slow the progression of kidney damage
-Manage symptoms and complications
-Improve energy and quality of life
Throughout this week, we will share daily tips on important nutritional topics- including protein management, sodium control, and mineral balance. To help patients and families better understand how food choices support kidney function.
Good nutrition is an essential part of kidney care. Let’s work together to build healthier habits, one meal at a time.

Day 1: The Importance of Protein Control in Kidney Disease
As part of Nutritional Week, we would like to highlight the importance of managing protein intake for patients living with kidney disease.
Protein is an essential nutrient, but when the kidneys are not functioning optimally, excess protein can place additional strain on them. The goal is to maintain adequate nutrition while reducing kidney workload.
Guidelines:
- Include high-quality proteins such as eggs, poultry, or fish in moderation.
- Limit processed meats and large portions of red meat.
- Follow the protein recommendations provided by your healthcare professional or dietitian.
Maintaining the correct balance of protein helps preserve kidney function and supports overall well-being.
