Get Yourself Back in Shape

You don’t need ladders, tires, and tackling dummies to get into sporting shape. Doing a jump rope-rope circuit helps with conditioning, coordination, and quickness. Try completing, in continuous fashion, 2 repetitions of each of the following jump-rope drills. If you can complete all 140 repetitions without resting, you’re ready for harder work.

• Keep your feet together and hop straight up and down.
• Keep your feet together and alternate hopping forward and backward.
• Keep your feet together and hop from side to side.
• Hop in place on your right leg.
• Hop in place on your left leg.
• Alternate hopping on your right and left legs each repetition.
• Starting in a split stance – one foot forward, the other back – and switch leg positions as you perform each rep.

Most folk will avoid a movement that hurt. It's a natural response. Unfortunately doing that limits true recovery and worsens the underlying problem.

Going through a functional movement screen (FMS) before training highlights weakness and asymmetry guiding you towards true betterment.
