Pesticides and fungicides are often employed by cannabis growers to control aphids, spider mites, and mold, which thrive in the warm, moist conditions used to grow cannabis.

There are many inexperienced cannabis growers that are unaware of the proper and safe use of pesticides and fungicides. Currently, there are no insecticides that list cannabis on the label, which puts some growers in a desperate situation as they may choose to use compounds that are toxic. This has been shown in a number of recent studies which have found high levels of pesticides in cannabis products.

Even pesticides and fungicides labeled as safe for food crops are meant to be applied to fruit and vegetables that can be washed before consumption. Cannabis is rarely washed before it is smoked.

An advantage of hydroponics is you can visualize the root system. While this is helpful for monitoring the plants, the recirculating solution also means that if there is a pathogen present in the system it can be very easily spread and infect a large number of plants.

In the past, cannabis strains were described as either being of “sativa” or “indica” lineage, with sativa strains having originated from European h**p plants, and indica strains coming from more potent Indian cannabis plants. Nowadays, strains are often referred to as “dominant” in one lineage or the other, based on physical attributes; these labels aren’t considered a proper chemotaxonomical classification due to generations of cultivation and strain hybridization.
