February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Month.

AMD is one of the leading causes of vision loss, often developing quietly with little or no warning in the early stages. The good news is that early detection really matters.

At David Fensham Optometrist, we use outstanding diagnostic technology called Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). This advanced scan allows us to see detailed cross-sectional images of the retina and detect early signs of AMD before vision is affected.

Regular eye examinations, combined with OCT imaging, can help identify subtle changes to the macula early, allowing for timely management, referral to an ophthalmologist, and better long-term outcomes.

If you are over 50, have a family history of AMD, smoke, or notice changes like blurred or distorted central vision, it is especially important to have your eyes checked.

Erané Grobler will be at the practice attending to patients and performing full comprehensive eye examinations during the final week that David Fensham Optometrist, 47 Bult Street, will be open for 2025.

To better accommodate patients for the last stretch of 2025, dedicated availability has been scheduled for the public holiday on 16/12/2025 from 09:00 to 12:00, as well as on the final Saturday of the year, 20/12/2025 from 09:00 to 12:00.

Our practice is expanding following the merger of our two branches, and we are opening applications for two positions for 2026:

✨ Debtors Clerk (Debtors Lady)
✨ Frontliner / Patient Relations

Interviews will take place in the first week of January 2026. A start date will be decided after the interview process.

Minimum requirements:
✔ Fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English, preferably with Afrikaans as a home language
✔ At least two years of experience in a patient facing or client facing role
✔ Professional, reliable and confident in handling responsibilities
✔ Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Applicants who do not meet these requirements are requested not to apply. We aim to use our time effectively and will only consider candidates with the correct skillset.

🎄Wrap up any pending orders and please communicate with Fran to finalize orders for spectacles. As with the contact lenses, we cannot promise delivery if the order is placed late!
