When we experience trauma, overwhelming emotions flood our heart and mind. In an effort to cope, many of us attempt to numb these and disconnect. The unfortunate reality of this is that we not only disconnect from challenging feelings, we also disconnect from enjoyable ones - as well as our body. While this is a normal part of trying to survive post-traumatic stress, it is unhelpful for us in recovery.
But, the good news is that we can start to repair this. By gently reflecting on how we truly feel, perhaps once during the day in a journal.
