Movember: More Than a Moustache

Did you know?
- In South Africa, 1 in 16 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
- Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men over 40, both locally and globally.
- Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men under 40.
- South Africa has the 10th highest su***de rate in the world, and 79% of those affected are men.

Men often feel pressure to “stay strong” but silence can be dangerous. It’s time to talk, check, and take action.

This Movember, the Pelvic & Women’s Health Physiotherapy Group (PWHPG) encourages all men to:
- Do regular self “nuts & bolts” checks.
- Get annual PSA blood tests after age 40 (earlier if you have a family history).
- Reach out for support, physiotherapy can help with incontinence, pelvic pain, recovery after cancer, and returning to exercise safely.

Let’s start conversations that save lives.
Because men’s health is more than physical, it’s mental, emotional, and vital.

*STROKE - KNOW THE SIGNS*
Knowing the signs and symptoms of a stroke could save your life!

*National Stroke Week, from 28 October – 3 November*, is all about being informed and aware of what to look out for and encourage healthy lifestyle changes to prevent a stroke.

*SYMPTOMS and SIGNS*
*F-A-S-T* is a simple way to remember the signs of a stroke. It’s important to seek medical help urgently if any of these signs are present.
*F* = Face — Ask the person to smile and check if the face is drooping
*A* = Arms — Ask the person to raise both arms – check for weakness in the arms
*S* = Speech — Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase – see if they have difficulty speaking
T* = Time — If the person fails any part of the above it’s time to call for emergency medical assistance

Get medical assistance as soon as possible - the faster you get help, the better the chances of survival and recovery.

Today we kicked off a day of connecting with Physios before a course by walking through jacaranda lined streets of Joburg. It was an early start but for those that came it was well with the effort.
What I learnt:
• a walk is a great informal way to catch up with colleagues.
• getting some exercise in before a day sitting in lectures is helpful
• we really do live in a beautiful city.

Our Story

Francis and Terry Rogan come from a medical family, so it was hardly a surprise when both turned to careers in the health-care profession.

Within physiotherapy, their personal interests differ. Francis and Terry's skills and experience cover a wide range of therapy specialties and they share this knowledge with each other to benefit their patients.

The team consists of physiotherapists Terry and Francis Rogan as well as Zelda More, who handles appointment bookings and administration.

The physiotherapy practice is in the center of Sandton. They manage sports injuries, back and neck pain, headaches, peripheral joints- knee, shoulder, ankle, hip etc.
