Reading aloud is not just a bedtime activity. It builds your childโs brain ๐ง
-Builds phonological awareness (pre-reading skills like hearing sounds in words)
-Strengthens listening & auditory memory (important for following instructions in the classroom)
-Grows narrative skills (telling a personal story in the correct sequence and with a beginning, middle, end structure)
-Supports attention and joint attention (we canโt learn if we canโt pay attention for long enough)
Every story read aloud is a step toward confident reading later.
For parents: You donโt have to read every word!
Itโs okay to:
Talk about pictures

Ask questions indirectly without expecting an answer- give your child the answer eg โhmmm, I wonder what the lion will do next. Maybe heโs going to ask for helpโ
Reading aloud with your child should be fun and foster an early love for reading. Interaction is ALWAYS better than perfection.
