Back To | Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration 2025 – Johannesburg

The French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) hosted the Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration 2025 on 20 November in Johannesburg. The annual gathering brought together members of the French, South African, and international business community to experience the first wine of the season’s harvest and engage in productive business exchanges.

The celebration marked the global release of Beaujolais Nouveau, traditionally enjoyed on the third Thursday of November. Guests attended to connect with peers, strengthen networks, and take part in a long-standing French tradition centred on the new vintage.

The event offered a focused environment where attendees enjoyed wine, food, and entertainment while meeting industry representatives and partners. The programme aligned with FSACCI’s mandate to create opportunities for members to engage, exchange insights, and develop business relationships.

The 2025 edition was supported by AGL as the main host and TotalEnergies as the Gold Sponsor, in partnership with Alliance Française de Johannesburg. Air France and Kasada Capital Management supported the event as Silver Sponsors, while Stratogo participated as the Bronze Sponsor. Their involvement ensured a strong platform for engagement across sectors.

The celebration also brought together a wide network of participating organisations, including Africa Global Logistics (AGL), Air France, AdVini, Clarins, FSACCI, TotalEnergies, Skultcha, House of Basadi, Kasada Capital Management, La Cheeserie, Quiver Tree Capital, Gourmandises, Zip Zap Circus, and Stratogo.

The Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration remains an important moment for the business community, offering an opportunity to connect around a shared cultural and commercial interest.

Member News | EnviroServ Haztech: Turning Sludge Challenges into Sustainable Solutions

Customers impressed? That’s just a typical day for EnviroServ’s Haztech team. When others couldn’t deliver, we did. EnviroServ Waste Management (Pty) Ltd’s Haztech team successfully transformed a complex sludge management project into a win for both the client and the environment.

After a previous service provider was unable to complete the project, we removed, transported, and safely disposed of 16,992 tonnes of dam sludge, including mercury and fluoride.

Analyses | Copyright and Artificial Intelligence in South Africa: Rethinking Authorship and Originality in the Digital Age

Artificial Intelligence's ("AI") rapid development presents both innovation opportunities and legal challenges, especially in intellectual property ("IP").

As AI systems produce increasingly valuable outputs, questions arise about who, if anyone, can claim ownership, particularly from an originality and authorship perspective under the South African Copyright Act 98 of 1978 ("the Copyright Act").

We explore how AI-generated works interact with copyright rules, especially in cases where AI tools are the primary creators and the requirements of authorship and originality become particularly contentious.

For copyright protection to apply, the legal requirements of authorship and originality must be met, enabling a party to claim rights over the work.

Without clear ownership or the ability to establish authorship, there is no legal basis to prevent third parties from using such works without authorization.

Analyses | South Africa stuck in a rut: how can it escape the trap of economic stagnation?

Nearly two decades after joining the BRICS, South Africa has failed to deliver on its development promises. Per capita GDP in 2025 is below 2007 levels, with a marked deterioration in social indicators: unemployment, growing poverty and severely degraded infrastructure.

Unlike its emerging peers in Asia and Latin America, the ‘Rainbow Nation’ has remained mired in low growth, hampered by two major structural constraints: the failure of the energy system and deep distortions in the labour market.
