DevelopME

DevelopME DevelopME groups provide a safe space for parents to engage in age-appropriate activities with their child under the gentle guidance of a DevelopME coach.

Our groups also provide an opportunity for parents to connect with and support each other. Each weekly DevelopME group will include activities that cover four important areas of childhood development-physical, cognitive, sensory and emotional-social. DevelopME groups are aimed to help parents become skilled at sustaining their child’s concentration during an activity, learning how to follow their child’s lead during play and encouraging independence in their child.

Children feel emotion differently.

If you’ve ever seen your child throw a temper tantrum, you know how upset they can become over the smallest things. This is not simply for show, but because toddlers experience emotion in a more full-body way than adults do.

Children don’t always know that emotions are temporary, making them feel trapped in a particular mood. They might also struggle to express their feelings, so it is difficult for them to do anything about it.

By the age of 2, your toddler should be walking, talking, climbing, jumping, running and bursting with energy. Above are some other milestones your child should be experiencing by 2 years old.

Remember that every child is different and is on his or her own unique developmental timeline. Some babies may develop quicker in some milestones and slower in others.

Young children's primary attachments are to their parents. However, their social-emotional development can be enhanced by having strong relationships with other caregivers, family members and teachers.

These relationships teach children how to cooperate and interact with others. Positive relationships also provide the child with a sense of safety and security. They are then more confident in their ability to explore and learn from their environment.

When looking for the perfect toys for your little one, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the choices out there.

Here are some pointers to keep in mind when choosing toys for your child:
- The best toys are those that encourage imagination instead of dictating how your child should play with them
- Less is more when it comes to toys
- A toy rotation is a clever way to limit distraction and increase focus
- Toys that are open ended and have more than one way to play with them are great
- Look for toys that enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination, and other developmental skills
