We’re taking a moment to pause and acknowledge our wonderful team for the support they’ve provided to our doctors and patients throughout 2025. To focus on wellbeing and recharge together, our practice will be closed on Tuesday, 25 November.

We’ll reopen with normal hours on Wednesday, 26 November, refreshed and ready to care for our community.

We've Enjoyed Our Time with You, Lissa!

Lissa de Jong (24) has been visiting us recently as a medical intern from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. We asked her about her Cape Town experience.

What is your favourite experience to date at work?
"My favourite experience at My Family GP has been the patient-centred approach that the practice embodies. Patients aren't just case files but are valued as individuals."

As you explore Cape Town, what's your favourite local food or beverage you've enjoyed?
"While it might not be a traditional local dish, I have enjoyed the ramen from Three Wise Monkeys. More local food is Weet-Bix. I have never had it before, but it is excellent!"

What's one thing you wish you could have brought from home to make life better here?
"I wish I brought my bicycle. As a Dutch person, I am very used to cycling around. Even though the City of Cape Town is not the most bike-friendly city, I would have loved to explore it on a bicycle."

What's been your most memorable outdoor adventure in South Africa thus far?
"Although it may sound cliché, my hike up Table Mountain has been my most memorable outdoor adventure. The Diagonal Trail proved more challenging than I anticipated, but the effort was well worth it for the fantastic views from the top."

What are you learning with us that you think would have been taught outside the Netherlands?
"At MyFamilyGP, I have been learning about the cultural nuances of patient care in South Africa. I love how South Africans are so welcoming and kind, which is reflected in this practice. I want to bring the kindness and personal approach back home."

Who inspires you, and why?
"My sister! She brightens my days and is a great support. As a doctor in global health, she is driven to make a positive impact, which inspires me to do the same in my goals."
