Presbyopia is a natural age-related change that affects how your eyes focus on nearby objects ποΈ
It can make reading small print, menus, or phone screens more difficult. The good news is that it can be identified during a routine eye exam and managed with the right vision correction.

Most people only realise their glasses donβt fit correctly when they start sliding down their nose, digging into their temples, or causing headaches after a few hours. A well-fitted pair of glasses should feel almost invisible β supporting clear vision without any discomfort or distraction.
At Yssel Optometry we check every detail during your dispensing appointment:
-Your pupils are perfectly centred in the lenses (for sharpest vision).
-The frames sit comfortably without extending past the sides of your face.
-The top of the lenses rests just below your eyebrows.
-When you smile or talk, the frames stay securely in place.
-They never slide down your nose.
-The temple tips rest gently and evenly on your ears.
A proper fit isnβt just about comfort β it protects your prescription accuracy and prevents unnecessary strain. Book your next eye test and frame fitting with us and experience the difference professional adjustment makes! π

Finding yourself holding your phone further away to read clearly? π±π
Difficulty reading small text can be a common sign of changes in near vision as we get older. An eye examination can help determine what is causing the change and what options are available to improve your vision.

As we head into the cooler months (perfect for more indoor time β but watch those screens!), let's talk myopia management: proactive strategies to curb progression in children, starting before it even begins.
Myopia, or nearsightedness, affects over 40% of the global population and is projected to hit 50% by 2050, driven by genetics, less outdoor time, and intense near-work like reading or devices.
At Yssel Optometry, we focus on pre-myopia prevention for high-risk kids (those with family history or rapid eye growth changes): this involves monitoring axial length (the eye's front-to-back measurement) and encouraging lifestyle tweaks like 2+ hours outdoors daily, which research shows can reduce onset risk by 20-50%.
For progressing myopia, low-dose atropine eye drops (0.01-0.05%) are a game-changer β clinical trials (like the ATOM studies) demonstrate they slow elongation by 30-60% with minimal side effects like mild light sensitivity, making them safe for long-term use in children aged 4-12.
We combine this with other evidence-based options: orthokeratology lenses (worn overnight to reshape the cornea), multifocal soft contacts, or defocus-incorporated spectacles that create peripheral blur to signal the eye to stop growing excessively.
Early action not only sharpens vision now but also prevents high myopia later, reducing the risks of retinal issues or glaucoma.
If your child's prescription is climbing, let's assess and customise a plan β their future eyes will thank you! ππ

Here is something most people do not realise:
You normally blink 15β20 times per minute.
On screens? Often only 5β7. π³
Less blinking = tears evaporate faster.
That can lead to:
π₯ Burning
π§ Dryness
π«οΈ Temporary blur
π΄ Eye fatigue
If your eyes feel uncomfortable after long screen time, there is a reason.

Myopia (nearsightedness) is rising fast β projections show that by 2050, around 50% of the world could be myopic. But we can act early to help slow it down!
Introducing our smart myopia control lenses (advanced designs like those with defocus technology / nano-style segments): these innovative lenses correct vision while creating a gentle "pause" signal to slow eye elongation β backed by strong clinical research showing meaningful reduction in progression.
Key benefits:
If your child's prescription changes within 6 months, we replace them free of charge (no questions asked β just attend the follow-up)
Designed for daily wear: aim for 6β12 hours per day for best results
Ideal for children and teens whose eyes are still growing
We truly appreciate our clients taking the time to share their experiences. Your feedback helps us continue doing what matters most, caring for your vision ππ¬
