Occipital Neuralgia: The Hidden Cause of Your Head and Neck Pain 😣✨

Occipital neuralgia is a condition where the nerves at the back of your head become irritated or compressed. These nerves, called the occipital nerves, run from the upper neck to the scalp. When they get irritated, they can trigger sharp, shooting, or throbbing pain that can feel like migraines.

Common symptoms include:
👉 Sudden electric like pain at the back of your head
👉 Tenderness in your neck or scalp
👉 Pain that spreads to your forehead or behind your eyes
👉 Light sensitivity or discomfort when you turn your head

What causes it?
It often comes from tight neck muscles, poor posture, long hours on the phone or laptop, stress, or even previous injuries. When the muscles at the base of the skull tighten, they can put pressure on the occipital nerves.

😴INSOMNIA🫩 is a common sleep disorder characterized by difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or achieving good-quality sleep. This can lead to daytime fatigue, irritability, trouble concentrating, and even cause physical symptoms. Insomnia can be short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic).

Insomnia, sleep disturbances, or even difficulty resting when given the opportunity can be triggered by:

A passive leg stretch uses an external force (in this case, a strap and gravity) to move the leg into a stretch position, rather than relying on your own muscles to push into it. In this variation, we lengthen the hamstrings and calf muscles by looping the strap around the foot and upper back to keep the leg in place, giving our arms a rest without having to hold or pull on the strap, and allowing ourselves to relax into the pose - making it more 'yin'. Over time, we can improve flexibility without strain.

Passive leg stretches can;
🦵reduce muscle tension
🦵lower stress
🦵aid recovery
🦵ease stiffness
🦵encourage deep relaxation by calming the nervous system
🦵improve circulation
🦵reduce hip/back pain
🦵relieve tension from sitting or poor posture

It is ideal for post-workout cool-downs and a great option for those with limited mobility.
