Colour can reach the 'unreachable' child.
Attention School Social Workers!
What is worse; with which one do you empathize most? The overstrained teacher who wants to throw in the towel because his or her dreams and passion for teaching are violated daily? Or the child in the classroom who has long since thrown in the towel against the Goliaths of personal problems, low self-esteem, pressure, and a sick society? We all know that child who is no longer reachable through normal or extraordinary efforts of showing love, persuasion, punishment, or shouting. And it is not only the so-called "problem learner," but also the high achiever who, upon deeper investigation, is actually a deeply unhappy individual.
In many cases, these children cannot easily be reached through any verbal intervention. He or she is often unaware of their own condition, their true feelings, and their needs. There is, however, a therapeutic process to reach these children with the help of colour, because colour can reach places in the subconscious—without confrontation—where words fall completely short.
The Gestalt Colour Therapy intervention is a short but intensive process to help children (and adults) to handle and complete "unfinished business" that blocks their awareness and spontaneity. This intervention increases children's self-knowledge and awareness to such an extent that they can once again take responsibility for their unconscious actions, resistance, feelings, and thoughts. It is an inexhaustible resource for every member of a school's professional learner support team.
