Why is False Bay perfect for Triathlon Swim Preparation?

- warmer water
- less extreme surf conditions
- it's an Ocean NOT a Canal and definitely not a Pool

We work with many people new to triathlon who are finding their feet in Open Water and want to grow their confidence and experience.

The Western side of the False Bay coastline offers a number of great options for those new to triathlon and even those more experienced. Triathlon specific training can be performed safely at these areas when conditions are right and will be similar to the conditions that triathletes may face at either their first 70.3 in Durban or Mosse Bay or at the Full Ironman in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Focussed training in a comfortable and less extreme environment i.e. no cold water and no huge waves allow newer triathletes to build their confidence, mileage and experience more easily!

Drop us a dm and let us help you make your triathlon swim the easiest part of your day!

False Bay forecast Monday 2 March to Sunday 8 March

Beautiful day in the Bay today and the water has warmed up again

23/02/2026

Good Morning Swimmers

Thanks to those that popped in for the ATB Swim yesterday it turned out to be a great mornimg once the wind dropped off.

Week ahead is looking pretty good for swimming. But this week looks to be overcast and cooler with water temparatures potentially dropping a bit with the NW coming in.

Monday light winds through the day but calm

Tuesday similar to Monday but the NW is predicted to pick up and will create a bit of surface chop south of Seaforth and further offshore

Wednesday Again NW in the morning turning SW later in the evening

Thursday moderate SW will make it a little bumpy in some areas but still swimmable. It will continue to be cool

Friday the wind switches SE before switching W and then SW heading into Saturday and Sunday

This may change still so I will update later in the week

Have a super day and week ahead

A day late because the weather in Cape Town is epic and we've been busy with Swimmers in False Bay.

09/02/2026

Your weekly False Bay swim forecast

It's been a cool but wonderfully rainy 24 hours!

The week ahead looks less overcast and cold than Monday

Tuesday is moderate SE so early swim potentially but bumpy

Wednesday morning looks ok for a short time before the wind turns on later in the day

Thursday to Saturday is looking windy and unpleasant although there may be a small gap to swim on Friday morning

Sunday is the pick of the week BUT the Peninsula Marathon is taking place so there are road closures and several thousand runners to contend with! Best to head over to Clifton or Camps Bay although it will be cold and likely be a bit of swell so buddy up and be visible.

Have a super week swimmers

Tuesday 18 November weekly False Bay forecast for the week ahead.

Prevailing SE winds for the next week mean no safe swimming in False Bay.

Episode 3 of our Swim False Bay series focusses on popular local Beach Fish Hoek.

The white sandy beach of Fish Hoek extends almost 1km to Clovelly corner on the Northern end of the beach. FISH Hoek enjoys Blue Flag status and is part of the Shark Spotters programme.

The City of Cape Town's Lifeguards and volunteeer Lifeguards from Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club are on duty from October through to April. Be sure to swim between their yellow and red flags. There is also a shark exclusion net in the corner next to Jagers Walk.

There is a small fee payable to enter the beach with a car during the summer months but it's otherwise free to the public

Stay tuned for more safe swimming guidance and our next episode on our Swim False Bay series.

Episode 2 of our Swim False Bay Series takes us to our home beach of Glencairn.

Glencairn Beach is situated between Fish Hoek and Simon's Town and is a quieter beach during the Summer months BUT it is the most treachorous beach on the Western False Bay seaboard. The rips at Glencairn can be severe during the summer months and the beach does not have Lifeguards stationed there. It is not recommended to swim at Glencairn unless there is very calm water with no surf. Only experienced swimmers should consider swimming at Glencairn Beach and still be aware of the prevalent rips and powerful surf that occurs there.

The tidal pool on the southern end of the beach is a nice option to swim but be aware that the pool wall can be very slippery.

Look for our info post on the rips at Glencairn that gives an example of the rips during the height of summer.

Buddy up, Be Visible, know your swimming beaches and stay safe out there.
