Episode 3 of our Swim False Bay series focusses on popular local Beach Fish Hoek.

The white sandy beach of Fish Hoek extends almost 1km to Clovelly corner on the Northern end of the beach. FISH Hoek enjoys Blue Flag status and is part of the Shark Spotters programme.

The City of Cape Town's Lifeguards and volunteeer Lifeguards from Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club are on duty from October through to April. Be sure to swim between their yellow and red flags. There is also a shark exclusion net in the corner next to Jagers Walk.

There is a small fee payable to enter the beach with a car during the summer months but it's otherwise free to the public

Stay tuned for more safe swimming guidance and our next episode on our Swim False Bay series.

Episode 2 of our Swim False Bay Series takes us to our home beach of Glencairn.

Glencairn Beach is situated between Fish Hoek and Simon's Town and is a quieter beach during the Summer months BUT it is the most treachorous beach on the Western False Bay seaboard. The rips at Glencairn can be severe during the summer months and the beach does not have Lifeguards stationed there. It is not recommended to swim at Glencairn unless there is very calm water with no surf. Only experienced swimmers should consider swimming at Glencairn Beach and still be aware of the prevalent rips and powerful surf that occurs there.

The tidal pool on the southern end of the beach is a nice option to swim but be aware that the pool wall can be very slippery.

Look for our info post on the rips at Glencairn that gives an example of the rips during the height of summer.

Buddy up, Be Visible, know your swimming beaches and stay safe out there.

Swim with a friend and share the experience!

This morning we had an early 6.30 start for a supported swim along the False Bay Coastline. A last push for our Robben Island swimmers.

We started from Seaforth Beach and hugged the coastline towards Millers Point and back covering 6.3km in 2 hours and 10 minutes. A great well paced swim and we enjoyed near perfect conditions apart from the occasional compass jellyfish (if you were wondering what moved past the camera at the start of the video)

Well done Tarryn and Carla you Ladies are going to smash your Robben Island swim!

Be sure to pop down to Fish Hoek Beach on Sunday and catch the Fish Hoek Mile swim! This year we will have a record 250 Swimmers taking part, making it the largest participation Ocean swim in Cape Town.

This important fundraising swim helps to raise funds for the Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club to support the Club and it's community driven services. These include their voluntary Lifeguard programme, that takes place every year from November to April as well as the Club's Nipper programme that helps over 300 children, aged between 5 and 14 years old, learn the basics of lifesaving, sea skills and beach safety. In addition to the Club's fundraiser they are also holding a blanket drive as well as a hygiene product collection for this year's local charities The Haven Night Shelter in Kalk Bay and the Happy Valley Home in Simon's Town. So if you are not swimming you can pop down to the club and support the swim and/or donate a blanket or hygiene product (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste or deodorant) to this year's charities.

The swim starts at 8:30am and is a 1 Mile / 1.6km swim across Fish Hoek Bay. The first swimmers are expected at the Club from 8:50am. 2024 defending Champions Amica De Jager and Jarryd Cole are both returning to defend their titles along with 2023 Champions Waris Mills and Wade Beukes. There will be many other top open water swim specialists and Lifesavers taking part who will be looking for the win on the day. The Top Lifesaving Club Award will be hotly contested this year with many Lifesavers from other Cape Town Lifesaving Clubs representing their club at this year's swim.

With thanks to the Fish Hoek Mile Swim partners Maurten, Ocean Freedom, Mad Wave, Number Thirteen, Button Wear, Swim Cape Town, Dixies and The Fast Lane for their support.

With thanks also to the City of Cape Town and the Fish Hoek Valley Residents and Ratepayers Association for their support of this important fundraising swim.

The 2025 Simon's Bay Mile Women's Day Swim Full Results

The 2025 swim had a record field of Women entered of 195 Swimmers. Although we sadly had illness and injury withdrawals leading into the swim 158 Women started and finished the 2025 Simon's Bay Mile Women's Day Swim. Still making it one of the largest participation Ocean swims in the Western Cape in 2025.

The Womens Day Mile Swim continues to grow year on year with a diverse participation base. It is a shining example of how popular and accessible Ocean Swimming has become amongst Women not only in Cape Town but all over South Africa.

On the day we were blessed with Women who have broken records, redefined boundaries or helped shape lives whether in Sport, Business or Life. They are the ones we call Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, Auntys, Grandmothers or Friends. To all of us they are the Women that we rightly celebrate on Womens Day on 9th August and Womens Month of August each year.

The 2025 Simon's Bay Mile Women's Day Swim - Prizegiving

Our 2025 Women's Mile was simply incredible filled with so many highlights it has set a high benchmark for 2026.

Over the past 5 editions of the Simon's Bay Mile we have watched the race grow from 50 registered swimmers in 2021 during covid and lockdown to an incredible 195 in 2025. We are excited to see what 2026 holds!

This year we welcomed 93 1st time Simon's Bay Mile Swimmers, several of whom had never swam in the Ocean before. We are proud to be a platform for those that are wanting to do Ocean Swimming in a safe and supportive environment.

Whilst we recognised the Category winners on the day, we dedicate the swim to all of the incredible Women that took part in the Simon's Bay Mile Women's Day Swim 2025 . Without all of you there would be no swim, you are all Champions!

The 2025 Simon's Bay Mile Women's Day Swim - The Finish - Album 5 of 5

The 2025 Simon's Bay Mile Women's Day Swim was a day to remember!

Once again we were blessed with an incredible field of Women taking on the swim in 2025. Women from all walks of life and from all around South Africa sharing their love for Open Water Swimming whilst Celebrating Women's Day.

We welcomed back our defending Champion Amica De Jager and this year she was joined by double Olympian Michelle Weber, Endurance Swimmer and Ocean Conservationist Sarah Ferguson and National Lifesaver Waris Mills. They were joined in the Racing Pod by many other experienced swimmers and several up and coming Juniors eager to race against a strong field.

The pace was certainly fast from the start with the Ladies blazing around the Bay on the anti clockwise loop and looking to heat up the 13C to 14C water temparatures. Amica and Waris made their move early and opened up a lead on the chasing pack. The two leading Ladies continued to push the pace as they approached the Simon's Town Jetty before Amica pulled away to retain her Queen of the Bay crown. Waris was a close 2nd place and after sharing the post race endorphins and joy of a race well fought they welcomed home a charging 13 year old Mikalla Laubser who completed the podium ahead of Michelle Weber who was also the first skins finisher on the day.

The Top 10 Finishers at the Simon's Bay Mile Women's Day Swim

1st Amica De Jager
2nd Waris Mills
3rd Mikalla Laubscher
4th Michelle Weber
5th Caitlin Barnes
6th Maya Laubscher

Congratulations to all of the Women that finished the Women's Day Mile.
