We are incredibly excited to announce that we are adding a new member to the Pets in Balance team! Please help us welcome Christi Bester!

Here Christi gives us some insight into who she is and what drives her passion:

“This journey started with a simple belief: that our animal companions feel pain and joy just as deeply as we do, and they deserve every chance to live a life full of joy and comfort.

I see myself as an extension of your care for your pet. I’m here to support you, to guide you, and to celebrate every little victory with you.

If your best friend is struggling with mobility or just isn’t their usual bouncy self, I would be honoured to help. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get them back to being their happy, tail-wagging, wonderful selves!”

Christi has recently graduated as a fully qualified veterinary physiotherapist from Equine-Librium College, and she will be starting her journey with us from January 2026. 🐶🎉

Let’s focus on keeping our dogs healthy—physically and mentally!

Why it’s important:

▶️Regular exercise helps prevent health issues, maintain a healthy weight, and boosts mental well-being.

How to start:

▶️Walks: Regular strolls for fresh air, smells and exercise.
▶️ Hydrotherapy: swimming, wading through water or underwater treadmill.
▶️Play: Fun activities like hide-n-seek or brain games.
▶️Vet or vet-physio check: Ensure your dog’s ready for exercise and get a tailored routine.

Puppy conditioning! 💪🏼

These individual classes are for any puppy under the age of 1 year old. 🐾

🩺 These sessions include:
- a full orthopaedic and neurological evaluation
- ⁠desensitisation to routine handling such as teeth cleaning, ear cleaning, eye cleaning, nail trimming, and being touched all over including paws
- ⁠introduction to equipment
- ⁠swimming and water safety

💡 The aim of these sessions is to:
- identify any areas of weakness, potential dysfunction or areas at higher risk of injury
- ⁠implement an appropriate strengthening program to minimise the risk of injury later in life
- ⁠build confidence around new places, people and equipment
- ⁠prepare for future vet or physio visits to make them as stress free and productive as possible
- ⁠teach them to swim and be safe around water, especially pools *summer classes only
- ⁠Q&A with owners to help and educate owners, and set them up for success

These classes can be done as a standalone, single class, or can be implemented as a series of classes, depending on the needs and personality of the puppy! 🐶

Alongside offering hydrotherapy (swimming and underwater treadmill) as part of our rehabilitation and conditioning programs, we also offer swimming lessons! 💦

‼️ Swimming lessons are suitable for healthy dogs of all ages, and cover;
- using the steps safely to get in and out
- ⁠pool safety - aimed at ensuring they are able to locate the steps consistently from anywhere in the pool
- ⁠being comfortable and confident in the pool
- proper swimming technique
