Hello everyone and a happy happy 2018 to you all!

Its February and in my world that means its birthday time..yaaay! I love birthdays and its such a wonderful excuse for multiple and extended celebrations with the people you love 🎉🍸
I'm once again at my favourite coffee shop slash WiFi hotspot, partaking of a rather delicious caramel cheesecake while I communicate with your lovely selves (the birthday cakes start early 🍰😉 ).
I'm getting some funny looks from the locals..probably because I can't stop my body from moving to the tunes playing through my earphones. Also, it's ever so possible that I might be singing out loud at the best bits before I catch myself. Aah....I suppose the beauty of getting older is that you care less 'n less about looking like an eejit. 😁

Greetings everyone, I hope you're all well!

I'm sitting at my favourite coffee corner, availing myself of their WiFi and a yummy cappuccino.
The gorgeous garden is in full bloom, there's a jasmine scented nip in the air and as the sun touches my shoulders and the bitter coffee fills my taste buds, I find myself in sensory heaven.
Its far too blissful a slice in time to be doing something as commonplace as emails and my attention is desultory at best.

I find this time of year a bit of a contradiction for me. On the one hand its Spring and the body naturally begins a process of rebirth and energising to prepare us for the productive and outgoing energies of Summer.
On the other hand, we're fast approaching the end of our calendar year, with all the hype and frenzy that entails. Many of us are tired from a busy year and dreaming of a holiday filled with languid trails and late afternoon snoozes.
They say we teach what we most need to learn (or in this case, give what we most need to receive 😉 ) and so with this in mind, I've decided to run a 3 in 1 special for the month of November...

Its time for more Epsom to soak my tootsies and feed the burgeoning garden, so I'll be placing an order this week.

Why use Epsom? Here are a few good reasons..

Epsom (Magnesium Sulphate) is one of those simple substances that soon becomes a daily part of your life as you realise its incredible impact.

Magnesium is essential for over 277 chemical processes in the body and is one of the most deficient minerals in our western soils and diet.
Absorbed through the skin it helps with:
pain, tension, headaches, injuries, cramps, spasms, arthritis, detoxification, oedema (water retention) and releasing negative energy. Great for swollen, achy feet, heads and bodies!

Had a rough day? Put 1 - 2 cups in a bath (or foot bath) and soak for 20min..you'll be amazed at how much better you feel.
Also good for ratty kids...place half a cup Epsom in a bath of warm water and (optional extra) add a few drops - or sprigs - of lavender or peppermint. They'll be cool, calm and playing for ages. Good for teens too ;)

Epsom can be taken internally for cleansing the liver, colon and for parasites but Must be used under careful supervision.

Wonderful to use in the garden (diluted!), it feeds foliage and is essential for veg, fruit and herbs. It reduces yellowing and sprayed onto your plants, is great for removing mould, fungi and pests.

Bicarbonate of Soda is another compound with myriad and far reaching capabilities as cleanser, deodoriser, exfoliator, sanitiser and Ph balancer..to name but a few.

For life forms to exist on our planet, a mechanism was required to deal with day and night, as well as summer and winter. Our connection to the light/dark cycles has evolved around our ability to produce one of the oldest molecules on the planet, melatonin.

Melatonin is produced in the pineal gland of mammals, is found in all different parts of plants and dates back some 3 billion years. In humans, through our skin and receptors in our retinas, the pineal gland recognizes when the sun sets and, in response, starts producing melatonin. Melatonin, a sleep hormone, eases us into sweet slumber. However, its role doesn’t end there…

Numerous studies have declared melatonin as the body’s most powerful antioxidant. It scavenges for free radicals, stimulates genes to turn on other antioxidant systems, has unprecedented access to any and every cell in the body and easily crosses the blood-brain barrier – all while we sleep!

In addition to boosting the production of the body’s army of protective, antioxidant enzymes, glutathione, superoxide dismutase and others, it regulates and maintains the health and balance of the mitochondria, which are the energy generators found in every cell.

Healthy melatonin levels have been linked to healthy bones, breast health, brain health, heart health, joint health, better quality sleep, blood sugar support, weight loss, balanced hormone production, cognitive health and a healthier microbiome by supporting the proliferation of immune-supporting gut microbes.

Sadly, a century of unsurpassed exposure to artificial light during the day and at night (particularly blue light from electronic equipment) has generated a population in which melatonin levels are chronically delayed or depleted. In the book by T.S. Wiley, Lights Out, she and many other experts link this depletion to the growing number of health concerns seen today not only in younger individuals but also in the elderly since the production of melatonin decreases with age.

Age-related deficiencies are thought to play a role in cognitive decline because oxidative damage to brain cells has been linked to the degenerative aging process.

In a recent Scientific American article, researchers declared Circadian Medicine as a branch of science that will revolutionize medicine as we know it. Our link to the circadian cycles is through the proper ebb and flow of both melatonin at night and cortisol during the day – which is dangerously altered in today’s culture. The foundational principle in Ayurveda is to enjoy a daily and seasonal lifestyle in sync with the natural cycles. Modern medicine is now catching up to the urgency of this connection.

Consider taking a one-week camping trip without any artificial light – this has been shown to completely restore melatonin levels and reset circadian rhythms.

Greetings everyone and a belated happy new year 🎉

I can't believe we're half way through January already! It might be 'cos I'm gettin old' but i prefer to believe that time is simply speeding up 😉

There seems to be almost unanimous agreement that 2016 was rather horrid. For many it brought to the fore the underlying 'sludge' that needed clearing out before moving into the new 9 year cycle.
