REINTRODUCTION: our Occupational Therapists
Meet our Occupational Therapists 🌱
OTs focus on the everyday things that matter most—self-care, play, work, learning, and independence.
Whether it’s building life skills, supporting sensory needs, or adapting environments, our OTs help people participate more fully in daily life, at every age and stage.

Transitions can be big moments for little nervous systems. 💛
Whether it’s moving between activities, starting something new, or ending a preferred task, children often need support to feel safe and regulated.
As occupational therapists. We see how predictable routines, clear cues, and emotional validation can make transitions smoother — and less stressful for everyone involved.
You’re not doing anything “wrong” if transitions are hard. With the right strategies, children can build the skills they need to move through change with confidence.
Small supports can make a big difference.

We had our end of year function yesterday and we also said farewell to Carin who is retiring after dedicating her time to Et Al for the last 21years! Carin has been a colleague, a mentor, a friend and a mother to all of us at Et Al. Thank you for leaving this legacy, Carin. We are all so proud and thankful to be part of the Et Al Family. You truly are a remarkable person and will be missed by your colleagues and all the children whose lives you have changed! Thank you for the service you have given to your community! Enjoy every moment of your retirement!

End-of-year holidays are around the corner, and for many families that means travelling to various destinations. It can be tempting to equip children with a screen (portable TV, tablet, gaming device or cell phone). However, an excess of screen time can:

- Have negative effects on their ability to tolerate boredom / self entertain
- Decrease their attention span
- Decrease ability to emotionally regulate and increase irritability
- Cause eye strain and headaches
- Promote motion sickness
- Contribute to poor posture “tech neck”
- Negatively impact sleep

Welcome to Et Al Therapy and Learning Centre Somerset West

The Et Al Therapy and Learning Centre in Somerset West was founded in 2004 by an occupational therapist, psychologist, remedial teacher and speech therapist, with the aim to provide high quality therapeutic services to families with an inter-disciplinary approach at affordable rates. These services include individual and group therapies, counselling, school visits, support groups, training of parents, teachers and significant others.

Since then, the ADHD support group, Senecio as well as Vergezicht private school came to their existence at Et Al Therapy Centre Somerset West. All of these are now organizations functioning independently within the Helderberg area. Our team at Et Al Therapy and Learning Centre has expanded to a group of 11 therapists and a remedial teacher, who presently form a multi-disciplinary team to support parents, teachers, schools and the child as a whole.
