The Play Therapy Hub

The Play Therapy Hub Working with children is like entering the universe of magic and fantasy and see the world through their mind.

Playing is their "language" to make sense of the world, as well as expressing what they cannot say.

Just finished the "INTENTIONAL PARENTING SUMMIT" in Johannesburg with some amazing speakers. Most amazing to meet Dr Shefali who has wrote many books on conscious parenting and is an international speaker at Mindvalley. Locally we have our own parenting specialists, such as Dr Clementine Chawane and Dr Jenny Rose pictured below. It was a very heart felt and inspiring conference and I can't wait to put a parenting program together.

Therapists at IMIBALA:
This is what I have been up to for the last year or so. Apart from the studies, I have been busy building a team of therapists serving some of the schools in the community. All the ladies are busy with their 100-hour internship towards their Therapeutic Play Skills Certificate. They have all been amazing and done a fantastic job.

LIMITATIONS:
We have only a few boundaries in the room. Keeping track of time is one of them. Here an example of a childs chart. With this visual aid the children can see how many times they have been for therapy and how many times they are still coming.

My journey as a Play Therapist started at Imibala last year and has been amazing. I have finished my internship there and will continue my work with them in 2022, as well as do private work.
Last year we not only added more intern therapists, we have also added another play therapy room. Her some photos of the journey. I am not finished by a long shot, but it is a start.

I am feeling more and more official🙃 Thanks you Gillian Rimell from Tinroof Studio, another job well done!

WHAT DOES PLAY THERAPY COST?

Unfortunately play therapy is not covered by medical aid as yet (we are working on it though). This means that the costs need to be covered by you. At present I am still working at reduced rates, covering my costs, as I am still considered a trainee. Contact me if you need more information

Below: Happy faces as we finish our sessions. The children never leave empty handed. All the goodies they made, plus a little card and a present goes with them....and hopefully lots of great memories.

WHEN CAN PLAY THERAPY HELP MY CHILD?
In short, when there are major changes in their lifes (e.g., death of a loved one, divorce, moving home, changing school) and/or when you see major behavioural changes in your child (aggression, withdrawing, crying more often, night mares, complaining of tummy aches/headaches, sleeping badly). These are just a few pointers on the mild to moderate scale. If you are not sure whether your child needs therapy please contact me.

Therapeutic Stories
Part of our training is to write a therapeutic story for a child. The unique problems and character of the child are incorporated into the story. Stories help to create pictures in the mind of children and are an indirect way to bring a message across without too much fuss. They relate, they learn and adapt their behaviour. My wonderful friend and artist Nina Ruch created this beautiful pictures for my story. Thanks so much Nina!

Sometimes play gets messy. We don't judge, we do not reprimand, we don't tell them it is wrong, we don't ask to be careful, we do not tell them to change their ways.

However, what we do DO, is to stay present and stay focused on the client.
