SERVING WITH A SMILE, CARING FOR OUR MOST VULNERABLE

Today at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, our hearts were drawn to the smallest and most vulnerable among us - abandoned and vulnerable babies who depend on the gentle touch of others to thrive.

Our CEO, together with the dedicated Mother & Child Department, spent time holding, feeding, and comforting these little ones. This simple act reminds us that healthcare is more than procedures and medicine - it is presence, compassion and human connection.

For a child who has been left behind, a warm embrace becomes a source of healing.
For the caregiver, it becomes a reminder of purpose.

At Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, holding and feeding babies is not just a task - it is part of our commitment to holistic, dignified healthcare. Every touch speaks hope. Every moment says, “You are not forgotten.”

Thank you to our incredible teams who serve with heart, kindness, and unwavering devotion.

CLOSING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

This month, we close Breast Cancer Awareness Month not just with ribbons but with real stories of courage, faith and healing.

Meet Hlamalani Daisy Chauke, one of our own at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, a woman who turned pain into purpose and fear into faith.

While pursuing her studies in Public Administration, Daisy’s life changed in an instant when she discovered a lump in her breast. She went to the Employee Wellness Clinic, where she received the diagnosis that no one ever wants to hear - Stage 1 breast cancer.

For a moment, the world stood still. But Daisy didn’t stop. She faced surgery, treatment, and recovery, all while continuing to study, write her exams, and show up for life with grace and determination.

“It wasn’t my body that needed healing the most; it was my heart,” she says. “But faith became my medicine, and grace carried me through.”

Today, Daisy stands strong, not only as a survivor but as a symbol of hope. She proudly serves at CHBAH, the place she calls home, reminding us all that no diagnosis can silence destiny.

Her story is a powerful reminder to every one of us:
• Take care of your health - early screening saves lives.
• Prioritise your wellness - your dreams deserve a healthy you.
• Keep believing - even in the hardest moments, hope lives here.

As we close this month, we celebrate every warrior, every survivor, and every supporter. Because behind every pink ribbon, there’s a heartbeat, and behind every heartbeat, a story like Daisy’s.
