APPEAL – 2022/2023

Vita Nova Centre is a residential facility in Springs. We cater for persons with Cerebral Palsy, Downe Syndrome, Autism and the physically and mentally challenged. At the moment we have 122 residents at the centre ranging from the age of 3 years and older, the oldest being 79 years old. They arrive at the centre with nothing and we provide them with toiletries, nappies, bedding and clothing. We give all our children lots of love and care, something they so desperately need and deserve!! Most of our younger children are either abandoned or come from disadvantaged areas. All our residents are uneducable and will never be able to go out and earn a living for themselves. They will forever need care, love and assistance. Vita Nova means “New Life”. To the more unfortunate, Vita Nova will be the only home they will ever know and we strive to make it as homely and as happy as possible. Covid-19 put a huge financial strain on the centre as all donations stopped and fund-raising events had to be cancelled for the year. For the 2022/2023 financial year which starts on the 1 April 2022 ends the 31st March 2023, we are looking at a deficit of –R3 361 379-00. Our total average monthly income is R803 448-33 and our average monthly expenses are
R1 083 563-25 giving us an average deficit of -R280 114-92 per month. Our highest cost is salaries which is R676 000-00 per month for 92 staff. We are not permitted to use government subsidies for salaries, only parent fees and disability grants. Our food is R125 200-00 per month also depending on the amount of donations we receive. We have cut the meat order to only twice a week and rely heavily on donations of mince, wors and chicken. Electricity is on average R230 000-00 a month. We are currently in arrears with the amount of R530 029-00. The cost of keeping a child at the centre is approximately R9183-00 per month. If the centre is forced to close due to Government, the residents will have no place to go. They cannot fend for themselves at all and most of the residents need
24 hour care. Local businesses have been very generous in improving facilities the past few years at the centre but they prefer to do projects and not give money for day to day expenses. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Financial contribution can be made to –

The Centre was truly blessed by the visit of the educators, students, and parents from the Creative Education Centre (CEC). Among them was a remarkable young girl, Micaela Francis, a Grade 6 learner whose heart is far bigger than her years. What began as a simple idea—a spark of kindness—grew into a beautiful movement of generosity and love.

Micaela, with her pure and selfless spirit, inspired an entire community. To everyone who stood beside her—her incredible parents, her fellow students, her teachers, and every member of the community who contributed—our hearts overflow with gratitude. You helped turn a young girl’s dream into a powerful act of compassion.

The clothes, shoes, and toys were not just packed into boxes; they were handled with care, dignity, and respect—each item a symbol of hope. A special thank you to Element Six for the thoughtful donation of snack packs, adding even more warmth to this initiative. We are also deeply moved by the generous R50,000 contribution from an anonymous donor—a gift that will make a lasting difference.

Micaela, may you always carry this light within you. Your kindness is a reminder of the good that still exists in this world. From the depths of our hearts, from everyone at the Centre—thank you. Your actions have touched lives in ways words can hardly describe.
