A Tibetan Buddhist monk once asked me, “Who is this guy? I feel he is enlightened. He has an aura that speaks ordinary wisdom in a very powerful manner!” I smiled in agreement. “I’ve never missed an interview of his since he joined us,” I responded.

Good morning BEZA Sangha - to those on the perimeter and those closer in 🙏🏽.

As many of you know our Apprentices and Students are working with the element of Stone / Mountain at present. One of the medicines of Stone is Power. We derive much of our energy from Stone - coal, uranium, minerals etc.

Together we are working to reclaim our Power - the power which gets steadily eroded from us the moment we start to develop our own WILL as little children by the power structures which appear to be threatened by our unique creativity, spontaneity and ability to make our own, sovereign way in the world.

And so … we are working with a quote from one who stood up to the abuse of Power - one who had his life stolen from his family and us all - because of his Love for people and for Just Power.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr’s quote, “Power without Love is reckless and abusive. Love without Power is sentimental and anaemic.
Power at its best is Love implementing the demands of Justice, and Justice at its best is Power correcting everything that stands against Love.”

This quote has been with me for years as I continue to unpack its relevancy in my life and the lives of those who feel the wrath of unjust power. How his quote plays out in relationships and communities. In politics and religion. And on the playground and in school classrooms.

How do we deeply Love in a Powerful Way. And how do we channel our Power in a manner that cares for everyone?

Who is role-modelling this for us? For our children and grandchildren? For the environment?

We have been blessed with the life and work of our beloved Madiba - a loving, powerful man, a victim of injustice, and the abuse of power, he stood for justice for us all.

Yes, Jurgen Klopp is a famous football manager. Under it all - he managed people in a powerful way by managing himself - his own true power - with love.

I encourage you to take the 2hrs and listen to the questions and answers. It’s actually not about football at all - if you have the eyes and heart to see beneath the surface, to pe*****te to the core of yourself, the core of people, and what it means to be a human being.

You may fall in love with him and the podcaster. Most especially Jurgen may inspire you to treat the gardener and the CEO with the same respect, and develop that special kind of specialness in the connections formed as a result. One that will unite everyone to walk through fire together.

Only God knows but we may really need each other for it seems a kind of fire may be on its way.

*The Way of Story - Power v/s Love*

A quote for current times . . .

“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”

Zen Buddhism is the study of the Self - of Love and Power. Zen is Love in its formed expression and in its unformed potential. And Zen is Power - to form and dissolve. Zen pe*****tes all barriers to the source of creativity and the power to manifest. Likewise, indigenous Shamanism heals the Self. Of Love and Power. It too is Love and Power. Shamanic Zen is what we teach here at Born as the Earth Zen Academy. We use Dr. King’s quote to guide our facilitators, our apprentices and students so we don’t become reckless and abusive or sentimental and anemic.

We will use this quote from Dr. King throughout the upcoming CREATIVE Stone Module (see below) and become intimate with its deep meaning. We will examine and see for ourselves that war & all conflict, distress & oppression, separation & privilege, and unity & diversity are outcomes rooted in our capacity for creativity.

Creativity is who we in essence are. We have been endowed by our Creator with an inalienable ability to create. “All conflict - within yourself, within family constellations, between ideologies or nations, is a measure of the lack of creativity,” Elder Austin Moore once wrote to the United States Congress before the Second Gulf War.

Creation is a form of expression. Expression occurs through the way in which we communicate through dance, song, a brush stroke on a blank canvas, a heated disagreement, the way we walk, or the way we shape what constellates our identity. All expression depends on power - the power needed to walk. To talk. To laugh or grieve. Whether verbal or non-verbal, Creation creates through us an expression of ourselves, and it requires power to move it from imagination into manifestation. Power is required to dream. Like Dr. King’s “I have a dream…” energy is converted into a visual of potential possibility.

Love too is a form of expression. Love attracts and connects, it shares and communicates, it bonds and makes us whole. Love dissolves the barriers that separate. It re-pairs for Love is intimacy and vulnerability. In its whole-making, it opens to include and embrace Otherness. And Love humble’s in order for its medicine to be received. Love invites something powerful into our lives.

Power, on the other hand, makes love visible — in what we think, feel, express, create and do. Memory is a form of power. Memory fuels our propulsion into the future through its reconfiguration into imagination.

Stones (minerals) are the storage containers for power - coal, uranium, etc.. Stones store memory in the geological records of the story of landscapes. They archive powerful algorithms, data, or narratives in the silica in silicon chips, the granite of monuments & gravestones.
With Zen, Indigenous Teachings and working intimately with the wisdom of the Stone Element, BEZA supports you in unlocking your Power to make Love visible in all you express and create.

Elemental Meditation applies similar Zen Meditation techniques except where you work with the breath in Zazen - in Elemental Meditation you learn how to meditate with one of the 5 Gateway Elements (Fire, Water, Earth, Nature, Stone).
