Your pelvic floor might be out of sight – but it should never be out of mind. These deep core muscles act like a sling, supporting your bladder, uterus, and bowel. When these muscles are too weak or too tight, they can lead to issues that affect your quality of life. Your pelvic floor is important because it:
♀️ Controls bladder & bowel movements.
♀️ Supports sexual function.
♀️ Helps during pregnancy & postpartum recovery.
♀️ Prevents pelvic organ prolapse.

If you are leaking when you sneeze, cough, or laugh, waking up often to use the loo at night, experiencing pain during intimacy, or feeling heaviness down below, your pelvic floor may need some help. While these issues are very common, they are not normal—and they are treatable. With the right care, pelvic floor therapy, or targeted treatments, you can regain strength, comfort, and confidence!

It's Bladder Health Awareness Month – but how much do you really know about your bladder?
♀️ As a woman, your bladder can hold around 500ml of urine – but the urge to go to the loo usually kicks in around 200 to 300ml.
♀️ It’s one of the most elastic organs in your body, expanding like a balloon and shrinking back down.
♀️ Women are more prone to bladder issues like incontinence and urinary tract infections (UTI), especially after childbirth or menopause.
♀️ Your bladder health is connected to your pelvic floor. Weak muscles can lead to leaks or prolapse.
♀️ Holding the urge to empty your bladder too long can increase the risk of getting a UTI.

Don’t ignore bladder symptoms like urgency, frequency, or leaking – they’re common, but not normal. Dr Colin Montgomery is here to help with discreet, effective treatments, so let's stop the stigma and start the conversation.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women, but there are still some things you might not know about it.
♀️ Breast cancer doesn’t always appear as a lump, so be on the lookout for other symptoms like swelling in or around your breast, collarbone or armpit; redness, a thickening of the skin, or a change in texture in or around your breast; warmth or itching in the breast; dimpling, retraction or scaling of the ni**le; and ni**le discharge.
♀️ Your chances of having breast cancer are higher if your father, brother, or son has had it. If you fall into this group, talk to your doctor about genetic testing to find out if cancer runs in your family. You may be eligible for high-risk cancer screenings.
♀️ Being overweight increases your risk of breast cancer, so it's important to eat healthy foods and stay active.
♀️ Breast awareness means paying attention to how your breasts look and feel, especially at different times of the month. If you notice any changes, report them to your doctor.
♀️ Drinking alcohol can increase your risk of developing breast cancer.

Let this Breast Cancer Awareness Month be a gentle nudge to pay attention to your breast health!

Osteoporosis weakens bones without obvious symptoms until a fracture occurs. For women, especially those in post-menopause, the risk is significantly higher due to hormonal changes that accelerate bone density loss. ♀️🦴

Conditions like pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence may be linked to weakened bones and muscles, making bone health a critical focus for your overall well-being. Today, on World Osteoporosis Day, start taking these simple steps to support your bone health:
◾ Eat calcium-rich foods as part of a general healthy diet which includes fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains.
◾ Spend 10 to 30 minutes in the sun every day to increase your vitamin D levels.
◾ Discuss your hormone levels with your gynaecologist.
◾ Do regular weight-bearing and strength-training exercises, such as running and lifting dumbbells.

13/10/2025

A mammogram is one of the best ways to detect breast cancer. But when should you schedule your first mammogram, and how often do you need one?

♀️ It's usually recommended that you get your first mammogram at age 40, but you may need to start earlier if you have a family history or lifestyle-related risk factors.
♀️ Schedule a mammogram for standard screening every one to two years.
♀️ If you have symptoms like a lump, ni**le discharge, noticeable asymmetry, or breast pain, your gynaecologist may also send you for a mammogram.

Many breast cancers are found in women with no symptoms. Don’t wait for a sign — schedule your mammogram if you are due. Your health is worth it!

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's time to get familiar with your body. A monthly breast self-exam can help you notice any unusual changes, and early detection can lead to effective treatment and a positive prognosis. 🎗️
Here's what to do:
♀️ Look in the mirror and check for changes in size, shape, or skin. Raise your arms and look again.
♀️ With 3 fingers, press in small circles all over your breast — from collarbone to bra line, from armpit to cleavage. Different positions help you feel different areas better, so perform the exam while standing and while lying down.

Know what’s normal for YOU. Then, if you notice lumps or thickened areas in your breast or underarm, changes in the size, shape, or appearance of your breasts or ni**les, dimpling or puckering of the skin, or unusual discharge, you can get it checked out.
