In our latest podcast episode, Dr Nick Simpson reminds us that health cannot be compartmentalised. Every aspect of life, from relationships and community to environment and purpose, shapes how we heal and how we thrive.

When medicine reconnects with this truth, it moves from treating disease to restoring wholeness.
Listen to this conversation and join the movement towards integrative, person-centred care in South Africa.

✨ Meet Dr. Julienne Fenwick ✨ Julienne Fenwick

“I’m a medical doctor. My journey into integrative medicine began after facing my own personal health challenges. Looking for answers beyond conventional approaches led me to discover the power of integrative care.”

Inspired by pioneers like Dr. Bernard Brom and Dr. Craig Golding, Dr. Fenwick found a new way of practicing medicine, one that considers the whole person, not just the symptoms.

We’re so grateful to have her as part of SASIM (South African Society of Integrative Medicine), where she continues to bring her knowledge, compassion, and dedication to bridging conventional and holistic medicine.

Stay tuned for an in-depth interview with Dr. Fenwick coming soon. 🎙️

Not sick, but not well.
Many patients live in this in-between space, where symptoms persist even though “everything looks normal” on paper.

This is the state of dis-ease — a functional imbalance that conventional care often overlooks.
Medications may offer relief, but without addressing the root cause, the body remains in survival mode.

Integrative medicine recognises this gap. It investigates underlying drivers such as inflammation, toxicity, nutrient deficiencies, and chronic stress — then uses evidence-based tools to restore balance: nutrition, detoxification, lifestyle medicine, and mind-body interventions.

By healing the root, not just the symptom, we create space for true recovery.
Because wellness isn’t found in a pill — it’s cultivated through understanding, time, and partnership.

In our latest episode of The Integrative Shift, Dr Nick Simpson reminds us of something simple yet profoundly transformative in medicine, the beauty of curiosity.

Too often, the clinical encounter becomes a one-way exchange: doctor as expert, patient as receiver.
But integrative medicine invites something different: a partnership.
A space where the patient’s own research, insight, and lived experience are not dismissed, but welcomed into the conversation.

Curiosity shifts the dynamic from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What’s happening for you?”
It opens room for humility, for learning, and for care that’s guided by both evidence and empathy.

When doctors and patients become co-investigators, exploring together rather than prescribing in isolation, medicine becomes what it was always meant to be: a dialogue of discovery.

Meet Dr Julienne Fenwick, a medical doctor in Hermanus whose journey toward integrative medicine began with her own experience of illness — and the realisation that true healing required more than prescriptions and protocols.

Inspired by pioneers Dr Bernard Brom and Dr Craig Golding, Julienne has built her practice, Best of Both Wellness, around whole-person healing. Her approach honours the science of medicine while acknowledging the deeper dimensions that influence health, emotional, spiritual, and environmental.

SASIM exists for doctors like Julienne, those seeking more.
Here, practitioners find a community where shared learning, open dialogue, and genuine collaboration make space for a new kind of medicine to thrive.
