Copper is a component of genetic material and important enzymes that control various metabolic processes.

Not including enough copper in a diet can cause:
• Anaemia – when you don't have enough red blood cells or haemoglobin,
• Demineralisation of bone tissue, as well as
• De-pigmentation of skin and hair.

Having too much copper in your diet can cause liver cirrhosis (a condition in which your liver is scarred and permanently damaged) or abnormalities in red blood cells.

Note that a regular high intake of zinc (more than 150 mg per day) and vitamin C (more than 1,500 mg per day) may impair copper absorption and status.

MAKE IT REAL by including some mushrooms, liver, kidneys, shellfish, cherries, nuts and wholegrain cereals in your diet.
