MEDIA STATEMENT
MSUNDUZI MUNICIPALITY CLARIFIES TRAFFIC CONGESTION FOLLOWING RTI ASSESSMENT
The Msunduzi Municipality wishes to inform residents and motorists that the recruitment assessment for the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) was concluded today at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg. We can confirm that no further assessments are scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday, and any messages circulating on social media suggesting otherwise are false and misleading.
The Municipality has noted with concern attempts to misinform the public and shift blame for today’s traffic congestion onto the City. Let it be categorically stated that the congestion did not arise from poor planning by the Municipality, but from an externally coordinated assessment process for which the Municipality had not received prior notification. Despite this, our traffic officers responded swiftly and were immediately deployed to key intersections to restore order, assist motorists, and ensure smooth traffic movement across the City.
The Municipality commends the professionalism of its traffic teams who worked tirelessly under difficult circumstances and thanks residents, businesses, and motorists for their patience and cooperation. Going forward, the Municipality will strengthen intergovernmental coordination to ensure that large-scale events of this nature are better managed in the interests of all stakeholders.
The Municipality also issues a stern warning against those who are peddling misinformation and urges them to refrain from such conduct, as it creates unnecessary panic and confusion among residents.
