TWENTY YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR R**E

The Bultfontein Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit has welcomed the sentencing of a 25-year-old man who was found guilty of r**e in the Theunissen Regional Court. The accused, who was the victim's stepfather, was sentenced to twenty years imprisonment for the heinous crime committed against his stepdaughter.

The incident dates back to July 2023, when the victim was 15-years-old. The victim was residing with her mother, siblings, and stepfather in Theunissen. During this period, the victim's mother was frequently absent due to a high-risk pregnancy, requiring her to be admitted to the hospital.

During the mother's admission, the stepfather repeatedly called the victim to sleep with him on the floor where he was sleeping. He sexually assaulted her numerous times, resulting in a pregnancy. The victim sought a termination of pregnancy and was forced to lie to her mother, claiming her boyfriend was responsible, due to threats from her stepfather.

The victim kept the secret for nearly two years until she finally disclosed the abuse to her traditional healer trainer and her mother. Following the disclosure, a case was officially opened in June 2025.

Constable Theo Weilbach of the Bultfontein Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit was assigned as the investigating officer. Working closely with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) I Maklein, Constable Weilbach meticulously and tirelessly gathered all necessary evidence. The investigation led to the prompt arrest of the stepfather.

The accused was convicted and sentenced in the Theunissen Regional Court to twenty years direct imprisonment.
