Founded by Shannon O’Leary (née Kruyt), a South African audiologist and speech therapist, HearInAfrica is an independent centre of audiology excellence which provides a comprehensive range of audiology services. HearInAfrica aims to assist in reducing the global burden of hearing loss by committing to:
- The provision of quality, evidence-based and ethical audiology services,
- The provision of audiological support and guidance to individuals and organisations in the private and public health sector in order to improve the quality of, access to, and sustainability of, audiology services in Africa.
- Serving as an interface for collaboration between key stakeholders and relevant healthcare professionals, academic institutions and organisations involved in reducing the global burden of hearing loss.
- Increasing public awareness of the global burden of hearing loss, with a specific focus on the situation in Africa.
- Promotion of the profession of audiology to students in Africa and assist with training.
- Collaboration with academic institutions to increase the amount of research conducted and published on audiology services in Africa.
- Advocating for the implementation of universal best practice guidelines for humanitarian audiology projects.
