Are we all speaking the same language in OT?
In occupational therapy, group-based interventions are described in many different ways - group work, group activities, group therapy, evocative groups, task-centred, creative, psycho-social, socio-emotional... the list goes on. This mix of terminology can make it hard to have consistent conversations across hospitals, training institutions, and clinical teams.
At OTGrow, we’re encouraging OTs to think about how we name and describe our work and how standardising terminology can help us:
- Communicate more clearly.
- Train students more effectively.
- Strengthen our professional identity.
- Improve collaboration and outcomes.
