Van Velden Hospital Welcomes a Christmas Baby

Van Velden Hospital, in partnership with the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality, proudly welcomed a Christmas baby today, led by the Acting Mayor, Cllr Ramoshaba.
This annual tradition reflects the strong working relationship between the hospital and the municipality, as well as our shared commitment to celebrating life and supporting families during the festive season.

This year, we are pleased to announce the birth of one Christmas baby, a healthy baby boy named Lehlongonolo, who was delivered at 00h32. The arrival of baby Lehlongonolo brought joy and hope to both the family and all those present.
Van Velden Hospital remains committed to providing quality maternal and child health services and appreciates the continued support and collaboration with the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality.

Department of Health Conduct Health Awareness Campaign at Northern Timbers Sawmill

The Department of Health, together with its partner Orange Babies, conducted a successful Health Awareness Campaign at Northern Timbers Sawmill aimed at promoting early detection and prevention of Tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and Breast Cancer among employees.

Health Professionals from Van Velden Hospital, the Primary Health Care (PHC) team, and Orange Babies formed part of the campaign team that provided essential health services such as TB screening, HIV testing, and cancer screening to workers on-site.

Before the screenings, health talks were conducted by the Department of Health team on TB, HIV, and Breast Cancer, while Orange Babies provided a health talk on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). These awareness sessions aimed to educate and empower workers to take charge of their health, practice prevention, and seek early medical assistance when needed.

The Department of Health extends its appreciation to the management and workers of Northern Timbers Sawmill for their cooperation and active participation. Special thanks are also extended to Orange Babies for their continued partnership and contribution to improving community health.

This campaign forms part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to promoting wellness, disease prevention, and access to healthcare services through community outreach initiatives.

Health MEC Ms Dieketseng Mashego commends the Plastic Surgery team at Mankweng Hospital for their sterling work on Mr Malepe.

This comes after the team successfully removed a massive keloid growth weighing about 3.58kg from Malepe on Tuesday, the 2nd September 2025.

Mr. Malepe who was a long-lost patient of the department, was brought back into the healthcare system through dedication of the surgical team.

She explains that the procedure will not only improve Mr. Malepe’s physical appearance, but brings immense relief, lifting what was described as a 'tremendous weight off his shoulders'

MEC Mashego says the Limpopo Department of Health has, through its surgical team, once again displayed its commitment and reaffirming its mission to provide accessible, high-quality healthcare to people in Limpopo province.

"This is a testament to the world-class healthcare services that Limpopo is capable of delivering. I am proud of our capable staff and the outstanding teamwork displayed at Mankweng Hospital," Mashego indicates.
