My heart is so full that I got to share the at this yoga festival last weekend 🔥🥰 it was so refreshing to be somewhere where SO MANY like minded people gathered, we did yoga, ran, danced, ate yummy food, laughed, made new friends, chatted, breathed fresh air, camped in front of the Glencairn Dam with the view of Drakensburg mountains in the distance and unplugged from the buzzing city life ~Slowing Down~

Cannot wait for the next one, are you coming with next time 🤩🤸‍♀️???

3.5 years ago before morphed into a festival I was honored to have been part of the first ever . Next weekend I get to teach my heart out again at this very special farm 😍 I'm beyond excited to be sharing the with all the yogis at this yoga festival as the first LYT Yoga instructor in South Africa.

Discipline is the strongest form of Self-Love.

It is ignoring current pleasures for bigger rewards to come.

It's loving yourself enough to give yourself everything you've ever wanted.

A twist to the usual Valentine's Day post, I'm sharing one of my favorite quotes of all time. A lot of times I get asked ah "how do I do a Handstand/splits/king dancer pose?" or "how are you so dedicated to your yoga practice, I want to be like you" or "how can I get 'good' at yoga". You can read all the tips you want in the world and get all the motivation(external) you want. There's only 1 answer and that is DISCIPLINE(internal) And it actually boils down prioritising your own wellbeing and loving yourself enough that you dedicate a time each day to your self-practice. Discipline comes from within, you are doing it for yourself and not for anyone/anything else. Because you know it's good for you and your wellbeing/health.

To anyone who has a fitness goal or any goal in life really the only way you are going to achieve it is by being disciplined enough to do the things that you may not always want to do cause you know it will bring you 1 step closer to your dreams and goals.

Happy Valentine's Day, I hope you always choose You 💞 Everything starts from within then you can go outwards.

Sunday Mantra from the Isha Kriya 💫

"I am not the Body. I am not even the Mind"

A reminder to stay with your breath, to watch the inhales and the exhales in this very moment - which is all we have really. This is not a slogan, philosophy or ideology. Inhale as you say the first part of the sentence and exhale as you finish the second part. Do this for 12 minutes everyday and see the changes in your life.
Let's do this together for the next 12 days, who's in 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️🥰

|| WHY I STOPPED HEADSTANDS ||

I used to love a headstand in the middle or at the end of my practice, it became one of those poses like in this pic - Ego and striking an 'Advaced pose'(sorry if that hit a nerve).

I started practicing since I was 15, and didn't necessarily get any better at inversions.

It wasn't until I did my level 1 training last year that our teacher/founder who is also a Physical Therapist(in SA we call them Physios) .heimann that I learnt the risks of doing this pose.

Here's Why I Stopped:

1. Cervical vertebrae are smaller+thinner in size and not meant for weightbearing compared to lumbar spine which IS meant for weightbearing.

2. Arms, Shoulder and Core WILL get stronger if you weighbear on your forearms or hands.

3. Can pinch a nerve which can result in numbness down the neck/arm/hand. Or worse you could possibly compress 1 of the 2 main Artery that supplies blood to your brain - the Vertebral Artery(we don't want that, right!?)

4. Later on in life have to go for spinal fusion surgeries(ouch, a gnarly procedure and outcome)

I'm not telling you all this to install fear but here to educate and let you know the risks. Though there are benefits, same ones can be achieved doing a forearm balance or handstand, even Downdog.
