Providing top quality sleepsolutions for patients. HealthySleep first opened its doors in Pretoria at the beginning of 2018 with a vision of making CPAP sufferers’ lives easier. Our dedicated team has 15+ years of real-world experience in sleep diagnostics and treatment. HealthySleep supplies premium sleep Apnea solutions and ventilators. ALL ABOUT SLEEP APNEA
Sleep Apnea is a very serious sleep disorder. If you ever wake up exhausted, even after 7+ hours of sleep, you could be part of the 6-10% of people who suffer from Sleep Apnea. Does your partner complain that you snore? Snoring may not be so harmless after all in Sleep Apnea patients – most of whom are unaware that they are suffering from the condition. Do you jump awake in the middle of the night? This disorder causes sufferers to stop breathing for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes at a time. These pauses, medically known as “Apneas,” can happen more than 30 times an hour. VENTILATORS
HealthySleep specializes in mechanical ventilation. We provide a wide portfolio of ventilators, imported from Germany, that can ventilate most paediatric and adult patients. APAP/ BIPAP / CPAP MACHINES
Continuous and Adjusting Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP / APAP) machines are used by patients who have sleep apnea. These machines deliver pressurised air through a hose to help relieve the obstruction that keeps the patient from breathing freely at night. These sleep apnea machines are mainly used to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is caused when a patient’s airways are partially or completely physically blocked. Our Continuous and Adjusting Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP and APAP) are specifically designed to optimise patient comfort and compliance. MASKS
You may be wondering: Which Sleep Apnea CPAP or APAP mask is best for me? With dozens of choices out there, it can be challenging to pick one. HealthySleep specialises in a range of nasal and full-face masks, depending on the prescription made by your doctor. Once you know what you need, you can start searching for the perfect mask that you will be comfortable sleeping with every night. Find our more on our website

💭 “What if we just split the pipe if we both have sleep apnea?”
Nice try, but CPAP therapy is not one of the shared couples’ activities in the bedroom!

Each device is made for one person only. There’s no second connection, no sharing mode, and definitely no romantic “dual breathing system.”

👉 If both of you snore or have sleep apnea, you both need your own CPAP. Trust us, it’s not exactly romantic, but it is better than fighting over air!

💤 What occurs after menopause in women and how does it affect the risk of sleep apnea? While sleep apnea is often seen as a “men’s condition”, postmenopausal women face a significant increase in risk.

Here’s what you should know:
💬 Why does the risk increase after menopause?
Your estrogen and progesterone levels drop after menopause. These hormones help maintain muscle tone in the upper airway and regulate breathing, and their decline makes airway collapse more likely during sleep.

💬 Can lack of estrogen cause sleep apnea?
Yes! Hormonal changes can contribute to weight gain, changes in fat distribution (especially around the neck), and reduced muscle tone in the throat, all of which are risk factors for sleep apnea.

💬 Other things to look out for:
- Snoring or gasping during sleep
- Morning headaches
- Difficulty concentrating or low energy
- Mood changes and brain fog

👩‍⚕️ Many women mistake these symptoms for menopause alone, but it could be something more. Consult with your doctor or contact us for more information on how CPAP therapy can benefit you.

Loud snoring and gasping for air during sleep could be signs of sleep apnea. This is a serious condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts throughout the night.

📋 Common symptoms include:

👉 Choking or gasping during sleep
👉 Daytime fatigue or brain fog
👉 Morning headaches
👉 Weight gain

👥 Who’s at higher risk?
Men, post-menopausal women, people over 40, smokers, and those who are overweight or have a family history of sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea can impact your heart, mood, and overall health. However, it’s treatable!

Did you know that untreated sleep apnea can make it harder to manage your weight?

When sleep is repeatedly interrupted by apnea episodes, it leads to:
🔹 Hormones that control hunger and fullness become unbalanced.
🔹 Your metabolism slows down.
🔹 Fatigue makes exercising and making healthier choices more difficult.

This cycle often leads to weight gain, which in turn worsens sleep apnea.

💤 Treating your sleep apnea with one of our CPAP therapy devices helps break this cycle, supporting both better rest and your body's ability to manage your weight in a healthier way.

The consequences of untreated sleep apnea aren’t just snoring, daytime fatigue and weight issues.

Every time your breathing pauses at night, it leads to a drop in oxygen levels. This can cause your body to react with stress responses. Over time, this can lead to:
⚠️ High blood pressure
⚠️ Increased risk of heart attack
⚠️ Stroke
⚠️ Arrhythmias

Your heart works hard for you every day. It is time to give it the support it needs by treating your sleep apnea. Taking care of your sleep can help keep your body calm and balanced. Our CPAP therapy devices are one of the most effective ways to reduce these risks and improve long-term heart health.

Untreated sleep apnea doesn’t just affect your nights! It also disrupts your days because it impacts your body’s ability to regulate your mood and hormones. When your airway closes during sleep, your body goes into survival mode, increasing cortisol levels and lowering the hormones that regulate mood and rest.

This imbalance can lead to:
🔹 Mood swings
🔹 Irritability
🔹 Anxiety or depression
🔹 Constant fatigue

The solution? CPAP therapy helps keep your airway open, allowing your body to restore balance and improve overall well-being.

💤 We all know someone who snores. But when should you start worrying? Occasional snoring might just be it… just snoring.

But when should you be concerned if snoring turns into something more serious? You should be worried if your snoring or the person you love's loud snoring is followed by gasping, pauses in breathing, or constant fatigue the next day, as this could be a sign of sleep apnea.

💡 Sleep apnea can increase risks for high blood pressure, heart problems, mood regulation, and weight problems.

✅ Our CPAP therapy devices can make all the difference you need to be the best, healthiest version of you.

02/09/2025

👃 What really happens inside your upper airway when you suffer from sleep apnea? Your airway is maintained by small yet strong muscles. Here are specific muscles and their crucial role in ensuring you breathe properly during the night:
▶️ Tongue muscles - keep the tongue from falling backwards.
▶️ The soft palate muscles - prevent the roof of your mouth from collapsing.
▶️ Pharyngeal wall muscles - keep the sides of your throat open.

While these muscles do relax when you fall asleep. For people who suffer from sleep apnea, these muscles relax too much while they sleep. The airway narrows or collapses, blocking airflow, leading to loud snoring and frequent awakenings to breathe.

✨ CPAP therapy functions by supplying a steady, gentle airflow that acts as an internal splint, preventing muscles and tissues from collapsing and allowing you to breathe freely throughout the night.

👉 Get in touch with us if you need a CPAP therapy device.
