MAYORAL SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAMME CONTINUES TO INSPIRE EXCELLENCE

The Honourable Mayor Thabo Jacobs, accompanied by Chief Whip Councillor Kagiso Slaolane and Councillor Amogelang Selaledi, today continued with the second day of the Mayoral School Outreach Programme, visiting Moedwil Secondary School and Reebone Secondary School to engage learners, educators and school leadership on academic performance and future opportunities.

The outreach forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to support education, motivate learners and strengthen partnerships between schools and local government. The programme seeks to encourage a culture of hard work, discipline and early planning for life beyond matric.

Moedwil Secondary School recorded an outstanding 95 percent pass rate, positioning the school as the second best performing institution in the Sub-Region. This represents a significant improvement from the 2024 academic year. Acting Principal Mr Lenkoe welcomed the Mayor and expressed confidence that the school will strive for a 100 percent pass rate in the current academic year.

Reebone Secondary School also demonstrated commendable progress, improving from 58 percent in 2024 to 65 percent in the latest results. The school management committed to intensify support programmes to ensure even better outcomes in 2026.

Addressing the learners, the Honourable Mayor urged them to remain focused, disciplined and resilient. He reminded them that success requires consistency and sacrifice. The Mayor encouraged all Grade 12 learners to apply early to institutions of higher learning and to submit NSFAS applications within the required timeframes to avoid missing opportunities.

He further emphasized that achieving good results must open doors for further study, skills development and employment. Students should not pass with strong marks only to remain at home without a clear path forward. Education must translate into real opportunities that improve the lives of young people and their families.

The Mayor commended educators and parents for their dedication and called on the entire community to support schools in creating safe and productive learning environments. He reaffirmed that the municipality will continue to work with the Department of Education and other stakeholders to ensure that no learner is left behind.

The Mayoral School Outreach Programme will continue across the municipality, reaching more schools with the message of hope, hard work and responsible planning for the future.

OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
MAYORAL OUTREACH PROGRAM
Date: 16 January 2026

The Mayor of Kgetlengrivier Local Municipality conducted an outreach programme, with Councillors Chief Whip Kagiso Selaolane, and MMC virginia Molatole at Mphe Bane 1 and Mphe Bane 2 schools to engage with learners and educators following the release of the 2025 matric results.

At Mphe Bane 1, the overall matric pass rate for the class of 2025 declined to 70 percent due to challenges experienced during the past academic year. Mphe Bane 2 achieved an 80 percent pass rate, marking the first ever matric results for the school, as 2025 was their inaugural matric class. The school also produced an outstanding learner, Onkarabile Titisi, who obtained five distinctions.

The Mayor urged learners to pay more attention to their studies so that Mphe Bane 1 can return to its previous standard in the 2026 academic year. He congratulated the matriculants of Mphe Bane 2 for their hard work and dedication, stating that their achievement must serve as an example and motivation for the new matric class of 2026.

During the outreach, the Honourable Mayor donated dignity packs to learners at both schools. The packs included sanitary pads, toothpaste, roll-ons, scientific calculators, and school shoes. Some of the donations were made possible through affiliation contributions from all the teams that participated in the Mayoral Tournament.

The Municipality remains committed to supporting education and creating conditions that enable learners to succeed and build a better future.

The Mayor proudly congratulates two outstanding young men from Reagile, Koster, who have been selected to study medicine in Cuba:

• Ashley Thabang Kat
• Joseph Monyele

The two learners paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor to share the good news of their selection for the scholarship and to seek assistance with some essential needs ahead of their departure.

They are among only 30 students selected across the entire North West Province, a remarkable achievement that reflects their hard work, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

Their success is a source of pride for Reagile, Koster, and the municipality as a whole. It also serves as a powerful reminder to other young people that with focus, dedication, and perseverance, even the biggest dreams are within reach.
We wish them every success as they begin this important journey of learning and service to humanity.

Congratulations to the Matric Class of 25!
