MAYORAL SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAMME CONTINUES TO INSPIRE EXCELLENCE
The Honourable Mayor Thabo Jacobs, accompanied by Chief Whip Councillor Kagiso Slaolane and Councillor Amogelang Selaledi, today continued with the second day of the Mayoral School Outreach Programme, visiting Moedwil Secondary School and Reebone Secondary School to engage learners, educators and school leadership on academic performance and future opportunities.
The outreach forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to support education, motivate learners and strengthen partnerships between schools and local government. The programme seeks to encourage a culture of hard work, discipline and early planning for life beyond matric.
Moedwil Secondary School recorded an outstanding 95 percent pass rate, positioning the school as the second best performing institution in the Sub-Region. This represents a significant improvement from the 2024 academic year. Acting Principal Mr Lenkoe welcomed the Mayor and expressed confidence that the school will strive for a 100 percent pass rate in the current academic year.
Reebone Secondary School also demonstrated commendable progress, improving from 58 percent in 2024 to 65 percent in the latest results. The school management committed to intensify support programmes to ensure even better outcomes in 2026.
Addressing the learners, the Honourable Mayor urged them to remain focused, disciplined and resilient. He reminded them that success requires consistency and sacrifice. The Mayor encouraged all Grade 12 learners to apply early to institutions of higher learning and to submit NSFAS applications within the required timeframes to avoid missing opportunities.
He further emphasized that achieving good results must open doors for further study, skills development and employment. Students should not pass with strong marks only to remain at home without a clear path forward. Education must translate into real opportunities that improve the lives of young people and their families.
The Mayor commended educators and parents for their dedication and called on the entire community to support schools in creating safe and productive learning environments. He reaffirmed that the municipality will continue to work with the Department of Education and other stakeholders to ensure that no learner is left behind.
The Mayoral School Outreach Programme will continue across the municipality, reaching more schools with the message of hope, hard work and responsible planning for the future.
