If probiotics could fix your gut no matter what you eat… dietitians wouldn’t exist. 👀

The internet loves a magic pill.

Something you can take while still eating whatever you want.

But your gut doesn’t work like that.

Your gut bacteria are alive. And like any living thing, they need the right environment to survive.

Think of it like inviting guests into a house with no food in the fridge, no space on the couch, and chaos everywhere.

Today is World Obesity Day!💚

This year’s global theme is:

“8 Billion Reasons to Change the Story.”

Why 8 billion?

Because every person on this planet is affected by the systems that shape our health — from food environments and healthcare access to stigma and inequality.

And because obesity is not a personal failure.

It is a complex, chronic disease influenced by biology, genetics, environment, mental health, and the systems we live in.

Today, more than 1 billion people worldwide live with obesity, and by 2035 nearly half of the global population could be living with overweight or obesity if nothing changes.

That’s why changing the story matters.

We need to move:
from blame → understanding
from stigma → compassion
from oversimplified advice → evidence-based care

As healthcare professionals, our role is to:

✔ Recognise obesity as a chronic disease
✔ Provide evidence-based treatment
✔ Advocate for systems that support healthier lives
✔ Support patients with respect and compassion

Because obesity care is not about judgement.

It’s about science, support, and long-term care.

Can I fast this Ramadan after bariatric surgery?🌙
The answer is not a simple yes or no.
It depends.

It depends on:
• How far you are post-op
• Your dietary phase
• Your symptoms
• Your blood results
• Your hydration status
• Your procedure type
In most cases, we advise not fasting within the first 12–18 months after surgery (sometimes longer).

Why? Because this is the critical adaptation phase where:
• Your protein targets are non-negotiable
• Hydration is essential
• Micronutrient deficiencies are more likely
• Your stomach capacity is still adjusting
• The risk of dizziness, reflux, vomiting and dehydration is higher

Islam makes clear allowances for illness and situations where fasting may cause harm 🤍

🚨 Your probiotic might be doing absolutely nothing!

⚠️ Not all probiotics are created equal. And that’s the problem.
