The "Bee Raft" Trick: A Simple Way to Save Thirsty Pollinators
Bees desperately need water but are terrible swimmers — a standard birdbath is a death trap. This floating "raft" gives them a safe, dry landing zone right at water level. Five minutes to build, used all season.

WHY BEES DROWN IN BIRDBATHS:
- Surface tension traps them
- No safe landing zone at water level
- Deep water = exhaustion and drowning
- They need shallow puddles, not basins

THE BEE RAFT SOLUTION:
- Floating wood = safe landing platform
- Porous wood absorbs moisture at the surface
- Drilled holes create tiny drinking spots
- Bees drink from damp wood, never touch deep water

MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Galvanized basin or shallow waterproof container
- Piece of untreated wood (cedar or pine)
- Drill with small bit

IMPORTANT: Use ONLY untreated wood — pressure-treated contains chemicals harmful to pollinators

THE SECRET OF THE HOLES:
- Drill shallow holes in the top surface (don't go through)
- Holes fill with water when the board floats
- Creates dozens of tiny drinking spots
- Mimics the natural shallow puddles bees prefer

LOCATION:
- Nestled directly in flower beds between blooms
- Near bee plants: lavender, catmint, sage
- Bees find it while foraging — no searching needed

MAINTENANCE:
- Refresh water every 2-3 days
- Prevents mosquito breeding

Bee Natural was formulated fifteen years ago when we discovered the amazing properties of beeswax. After around two years of experimenting with different ingredients, quantities and consistencies, we were able to produce a cutting edge, head to toe healing balm- effective in every aspect of beautifying and healing. We soon realized the potential our products in the local market, leading to progressive distribution nationwide and internationally. Currently our products are available in all Dis-Chem stores nationwide, Wellness Warehouse, independent pharmacies, health shops and beauty salons, on-line we have teamed up with Faithful-to-Nature who handle all our on-line orders.

We are passionate about promoting and making use of South Africa's rich variety of resources and are active participants in the momentum towards creating an empowered and self-sustaining nation. It gives us much pride and joy to include previously disadvantaged woman in the production of our products and promote them as the business grows form strength to strength. We also realize the importance of conserving and respecting our natural surroundings. As any form of economic participation results in the exploitation of earths often non - renewable resources, we are keen on reducing our carbon footprint and have hence established reliable agents in every province of the country.
