Pain in the feet, ankles, knees or hips is rarely caused by a single joint working in isolation. The way these areas move and support one another plays a significant role in how strain and discomfort develop over time. When one part of the lower body is not functioning optimally, other joints often compensate, which can lead to ongoing pain or recurring problems.
A physiotherapy assessment looks at how the entire lower body works together. This includes movement patterns, walking mechanics, muscle strength, flexibility and joint alignment. By identifying contributing factors rather than focusing only on where the pain is felt, physiotherapy aims to address the underlying cause and support more efficient, comfortable movement in daily life.
