Roots Therapy Roots Therapy has a deep rooted passion to help those in need using a holistic approach.

I am a born empath with a passion to help people reach their full potential by bringing balance to the body, mind and soul. During my own healing journey I experienced an awakening which enhanced my inherent abilities further and has allowed me to become a stronger healer and intuitive reader. My inborn passion is to help facilitate the healing of anyone I meet and it's with this care that I have created Roots Therapy. I want to get down to the root cause of the problem so that my clients can experience true healing - healing that is steadfast and restorative. All of my healing techniques are energy based, including the easy-to-follow nutritional advice and the herbal supplements that I may recommend. Having a BA Degree in Psychology I am very adept at counselling my clients through their trials and tribulations, with my number one goal being the complete balance between the body, mind and soul!

"Pomegranate is a great blood builder, as it strengthens both red and white cell counts. It serves an important role in blood sugar, too, by restoring precious glucose reserves to the liver, so that the liver can release this glucose into the bloodstream as needed. This process in turn protects the adrenal glands" - A Williams

Let this tasty starter bring vibrance and healing to your holidays โœจ

*Pomegranate Guacamole*

Ingredients:

2 large or 3 small avocados
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tbsp finely chopped red or white onion
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
1-2 tsp fresh finely chopped jalapeรฑo (optional)
Juice from 1/2 lime
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds, more to serve
Sea salt, to taste (optional)

Directions:

In a medium-sized bowl, add the pitted and peeled avocados. Mash using a potato masher or a fork until the guacamole is smooth but still has a few bigger chunks.

Add all the remaining ingredients and mix together gently with a spoon. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve immediately or refrigerate until needed.

Most times these hurdles are brought on due to an unacknowledged fear and it's only through the acknowledgement and acceptance of this fear that we are able to overcome such difficulties -

A fragrant dish that will bring colour and vibrance to any festive occasion with delicious ingredients that offer incredible benefits - this dish has a strong antioxidant profile, which helps protect cells from damage alongside aiding good digestion and gut health. The rich oils from the olives and nuts are helpful for improving cholesterol and reducing inflammation whilst the varied nutrients increase energy and offer mood lifting and neuroprotective properties ๐Ÿฅ™

*Moroccon Spiced Rice*

*Ingredients*

6 strands saffron
ยผ cup boiling water
1 cup Basmati extra long grain white rice
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1 tsp ground coriander
ยฝ tsp ground fennel
ยฝ tsp ground turmeric
ยฝ tsp ground cardamom
1 ยผ cups water
Salt and pepper to taste
ยฝ cup mixed fruit (apricots, raisins, cherries, dates etc)
ยผ cup almonds, toasted and roughly chopped
ยผ cup pistachios, toasted and roughly chopped (optional)
Small handful of fresh mint leaves
Handful pomegranate seed

*Directions*

In a small bowl, steep the saffron threads in the boiling water for about 10 minutes to release the flavour and colour.

Rinse the rice under cold running water for about 2 minutes, or until the water runs clear.

Heat the olive oil in a pot over medium-low heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic, ground coriander, fennel, turmeric, and cardamom. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Stir in the rinsed rice, and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour in the saffron-infused water and 1 ยผ cups of water. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper, then bring to a boil.

Once boiling, reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 15 โ€“ 18 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

Turn off the heat and add choice of fruit on top without stirring. Cover the pot and let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the fruit to soften and infuse into the rice.

Stir in the toasted almonds and pistachios. Fluff the rice with a fork, then spoon it into a serving dish.
Top with fresh mint leaves and pomegranate seeds before serving.

Are you aware that you have an inner network of connection and communication? And I'm not referring to your nervous or immune system which are also essential for inward analysis - this morning I'm introducing you to your *fascia* โšก

Fascia is a tough, complex web of connective tissue that supports, separates and aligns every single muscle, organ, nerve, bone and blood vessel in your body. Not only does it provide structural integrity and enables movement by reducing friction - but it also transmits energy and transmutes tension along with storing experiences and memories that contain intense emotional responses including grief, anger and anxiety. Healthy fascia is flexible but during times of stress it can become stiff and restrictive.

The following can help regulate and release fascia tension:

- Self-Myofascial Release (SMR): This technique involves applying targeted, sustained pressure to fascial tissues using tools like foam rollers, massage balls, or your own hands to break up adhesions (muscle knots).

- Stretching: Regular, gentle stretching helps reduce inflammation and keeps fascia healthy and pliable.

- Yoga: The slow, sustained movements and postures in yoga can help improve flexibility and alleviate fascial tightness.

- Aerobic Exercise: Activities like walking, swimming, or running promote blood flow, reduce inflammation, and can mitigate pain associated with myofascial trigger points.

- Heat Therapy: Applying a heating pad or taking a warm bath can help relax tense tissues.

I had been managing a little hip ni**le for the past few weeks and then at the end of last week the ni**le turned into a full on back seize landing me on bed rest ๐Ÿฅด

A reminder that when we don't listen to the whisper it will in turn become a scream ๐Ÿ˜ต

Thankfully after some rest it began to settle and I was able to quickly incorporate all the right things to help reset which included:

- epsom salt baths
- meditations
- using my beautiful magnesium balm called *Canna Mag* to reduce external tension and muscle pain
- Olive Leaf to calm inflammation
- an acupuncture session with gentle fascia manipulation
.. but these things only worked once I had taken a forced time out ๐Ÿ™ƒ

And our *hips don't lie* - they are our centre of balance. They are the containers of our daily tasks and schedules! When they are unbalanced and out of whack it's usually because we are ๐Ÿ˜

If you are suffering from lower back pain or hip irritation then ask yourself "am I doing too much?" - the answer is probably yes ๐Ÿค

I tested this recipe over the weekend ๐Ÿ˜‹ It is so easy and super tasty! A wonderful dessert option for your festive table ๐Ÿฅฎ

This recipe contains one of my top healing foods - *DATES*

Dates are so incredibly rich in balancing minerals that support your adrenal glands to handle all of life's challenges. Dates also contain the leucin amino acid which aids in fortifying muscles and nerves.

*Sticky Date Pudding*

*Ingredients*

1 ยฝ cup pitted dates, finely chopped
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup boiling water
ยผ cup unsweetened almond milk or gluten-free oat milk
ยพ cup gluten-free oat flour
ยฝ cup brown rice flour
ยผ cup tapioca starch
1 tsp baking powder
โ…“ cup coconut sugar
1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

*Caramel sauce*

ยฝ cup Medjool dates
1 cup unsweetened almond or gluten-free oat milk
2 tbsps pure maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla powder or alcohol-free vanilla extract

*Directions*

Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (180ยฐC).

Place the chopped dates in a bowl and sprinkle baking soda on top. Cover with 1 cup of hot water and set aside for 20 to 30 minutes, until cool. Add the unsweetened almond milk or oat milk to the bowl and stir well.

In a separate bowl, combine oat flour, brown rice flour, tapioca starch, baking powder, and cinnamon (if using), whisking to mix. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and stir until you get a smooth, lightly foamy batter. Pour into a non-stick muffin pan, filling the holes โ…” way full, or into lightly oiled ramekins. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until golden and firm.

For the caramel sauce, blend Medjool dates, almond or gluten-free oat milk, pure maple syrup, and vanilla powder until you get a smooth sauce. Set aside until needed.

To make a Banana ice cream blend together 4 frozen bananas with ยฝ tsp vanilla powder or alcohol-free vanilla paste and 3-4 tbsps water

Before serving, use a skewer to poke a few holes in each pudding. Pour some of the sauce over the pudding and allow it to seep into the pudding for 5 to 10 minutes.

Serve the sticky date puddings with a drizzle of caramel over the top.

Serves 8-9
