Your normal home scale is depressing you so stop using it. 🤯

Focus on your body composition - muscle mass, fat mass, where that fat is and your skeleton.

Focus on your blood work and risk factors for disease and prevention of chronic illness.

Stop obsessing over the number on a scale. Weight and weight loss is so much more nuanced than an overall total figure.

My feed deserves a purple tile and not just my stories or my temporary profile picture.

Gender based violence in RSA 🇿🇦 has affected all of you - men and women.

You may think it’s someone else’s problem. So did I until I recognised names (yes plural) on the social pages.

I also didn’t think I was a victim until I read the definition of GBV and was shocked at what it all encompassed. Some behaviour becomes acceptable to us as women because it’s just so common.

You may also wonder what declaring GBV a national disaster will do - the cynical saffa in me thinks this too. But without it, no resources will be allocated to addressing this, let alone creating any change.

Yes, this is a doctor’s profile. Its medical. But my job is women’s health. The stories I’ve heard and the things I’ve seen in my 18 years of being a doctor, are beyond traumatising.

So I’ll be vocal. I’ll make you think about the things you let slide. And while we also know it isn’t all men, those who aren’t part of the problem, need to be part of the solution. Period.

Thank you, South Africa for making a change. Thank you for signing a petition. Thank you for going purple.

And thank you for your relentless pursuit of activism with your small team and now, even bigger voice 💜

Big news from the FDA starting the process of removing black box warning off hormone therapy products.

We’re all so happy about this decision and the doctors who drove the process.

This is a nuanced conversation and every patient deserves an individualised discussion on how their health journey with menopause can be helped with hormones. Different hormones, different routes and doses all lead to a very unique dosing schedule between patients.

It is not as simple as just saying “it’s safe now”.

But the conversations are changing, women are being heard and the science is catching up!
