Minor, everyday actions - like getting up and sitting down, coughing, and laughing - we do them without thinking. But for Elinore, a woman in her late 50’s, these simple things were a source of deep embarrassment, resulting in what she termed “: an accident” . At the slightest exertion urine leaked from her bladder and she had to wear an absorbent pad, which she changed up to six times a day.
She worked in an office surrounded by people and with her predicament she could never feel comfortable.
Two years before she had been diagnosed with a prolapse of the bladder - a sagging due to weakness of the supporting tissues causing a sensation of constant pressure and incontinence. A gynaecologist had scheduled her for surgery in a month's time to shorten the muscles holding the bladder in place. Elinore was deeply unhappy about her situation but felt reluctant to undergo surgery. When she consulted a BSR practitioner he explained that nerve compression in the lower back may disturb the efficient functioning of certain muscles and organs. When she returned three days later she was smiling broadly. “I don’t know what it is that you do, but I was fine for two whole days, the best I’ve been for two years.”
After two further sessions the incontinence occurred irregularly, and after the sixth time, she declared herself 60% better. She decided to postpone the surgery and continue with BSR once a month.
Three months later Elinore was experiencing ten consecutive days free from bladder problems. After twelve sessions her lifestyle had returned to normal, and her confidence was restored.
