Yesterday, I had to practice what I preach and take some of my own advice... REST! I’ve been dealing with calf issues, and instead of pushing through, I knew I needed to slow down. So while ran I walked. It’s funny how we readily take medication for granted but often overlook the power of rest. Yet, rest is crucial for muscle recovery, brain function, and mental health. Without it, we can’t regulate our emotions properly. It’s also key for boosting immunity, supporting hormones, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. I wish more people understood just how powerful rest really is! Taking things slower yesterday allowed me to savour the beauty around me and appreciate how much my dogs embrace just being outside!

One word - grateful… life is unpredictable, a bit chaotic and stressful…. often very stressful! BUT, life does give opportunities and we need to choose what we do with them…. I’m happy with the choices I made today. Chin up and on!

University students are often seen as “healthy”…
But the reality is more complex.
In our study of South African students:
• Chronic diseases like cancer and diabetes were rare
• BUT more than a third reported respiratory conditions or mental health challenges
And it doesn’t stop there ↓
We identified a higher-risk group marked by:
• High psychological distress
• Poor sleep
• Increased substance use
👉 Risk doesn’t happen in isolation — it clusters.
This means we can’t keep addressing health in silos.
Sleep, stress, mental health, and other behaviours are deeply connected.
For me, this reinforces one key idea:
We need to act early — before long-term disease develops.
Because prevention doesn’t start later…
It should start here. link: https://lnkd.in/djHkpnxP
