Leaders leading the way in improving perinatal outcomes.

Not your usual Tuesday—In-charges, Nursing Officers, Senior Nursing Officers, and Senior Doctors came together for a hands-on clinical drill in neonatal resuscitation.

This collaborative effort highlights our shared commitment to excellence in maternal and newborn care, strengthening team readiness, improving response times, and ultimately saving lives.

Beyond skills development, the session also focused on capacitating leaders for effective mentorship—empowering them to guide, support, and continuously build the competence of their teams.

Continuous training like this ensures that every newborn has the best possible start to life.

GIVE TO GAIN: THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN STRENGTHENING HEALTH AND COMMUNITY SYSTEMS.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day on Sunday under the theme "Rights Justice and Action for all women and girls, it reminds us that when we invest in women through opportunities, knowledge, and leadership, everyone benefits—our families, workplaces, and communities.

As women in the health sector, our work is closely connected to the well-being of our communities. Every day we serve as caregivers, mentors, leaders, and advocates, ensuring that women, children, and families receive the quality healthcare they need.
Women in health play a vital role in maternal health. A woman gives life.

By supporting mothers through antenatal care, safe delivery, and postnatal services, we protect both mother and child and contribute to stronger families and healthier communities.

We must also continue to pursue professional and career development by seeking education, training, and leadership opportunities. By mentoring younger women and sharing our knowledge, we help build the next generation of female leaders in healthcare.

Teamwork is equally important in our workplaces. When we respect one another, work together, and value each other’s contributions, we strengthen our ability to provide quality care.

As we celebrate, let us continue to give support, mentorship, opportunities, and respect to every patient and client we serve. Knowing that by doing so we gain stronger health systems, stronger families, and a stronger Zambia.

To every woman in the health profession and beyond: your work, your voice, and your leadership matter.

Happy International Women’s Day.
