Today, the Laboratory Department is holding its Annual Quality Management Review Meeting for 2025 at the Kabwe Vocational and Skills Centre, with both physical and online participation from 08:30 hrs to 15:30hrs.
This meeting is one of the key activities on the laboratory annual calendar, as it sets the tone and priorities for the year ahead. It brings together representatives from the Ministry of Health, hospital management, nurses, clinicians, equipment distributors, implementing partners, and other key stakeholders who support laboratory services through infrastructure development, training, equipment provision, External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes, and related activities.
The meeting provides an important platform to evaluate the Laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure the continued delivery of quality, reliable, and timely laboratory services that effectively support patient management.
Laboratory results inform over 70% of clinical decisions. Accurate, reliable, and timely laboratory services are therefore essential for effective patient management, disease surveillance, outbreak response, and monitoring of treatment outcomes. Priority Ministry of Health programmes, including HIV, TB, Malaria, Maternal and Child Health, and public health surveillance, depend heavily on functional and quality laboratory services. It is therefore critical that laboratory systems consistently produce accurate and reliable results to achieve positive health outcomes.
Through this review, participants assess what worked well in the past year, identify gaps and challenges, agree on corrective and improvement actions, and set quality objectives for 2026. This process reinforces the laboratory’s commitment to continuous quality improvement and excellence in service delivery.
