Have you ever thought about what home really means?
At Bakashana, a home is more than a place to live. It is a place to laugh, learn, and ask questions ,and most importantly, to grow. It is where people are empowered to thrive and pursue their dreams.

Pictured here is one of the incredible women from the Bakashana Knitting Club. Through this program, women bring their talents, strengthen their skills, and work hard to earn a sustainable living. Over the years, they have grown into independent, and confident women who truly represent what empowerment in action looks like. As we continue addressing violence in the home, we also encourage women to invest in their talents through various means as a pathway to economic independence and long-term prosperity because success is not only achieved through formal education but also our talents and gifts!!

Results from our recent Impact Assesment are in (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-m0_LaFg7aeZljHyFL3CYGpagu-nIm7aXL3SDygFino/edit?usp=sharing) and we are pleased to share that they “indicate a significant improvement in SRHR knowledge among participants from baseline to endline. Notably, the mean score for factual knowledge increased from 2.71 to 3.75, reflecting a clear enhancement in learners' understanding of SRHR concepts. Similarly, scenario-based knowledge, which evaluates participants' ability to apply their understanding in practical situations, showed an increase from 1.40 to 1.69. Furthermore, the mean score for attitudes towards SRHR improved from 3.21 to 3.83, indicating a more supportive and rights-based perspective among learners following their participation in the program.”

Under our Strengthening grant from Amplify Change, we have learned so much about M&E, and to be honest, for the last couple of years, we struggled to collect enough relevant data to clearly demonstrate what we knew from a qualitative perspective to be true, that these clubs are really making a difference! Through revision of our methods, refinment of our questioning, and more effective data collection software, we are very excited to have some numbers to share with you.

We are still, and will always be, learning. We’re grateful for the opportunity to keep improving our programmes eagerly and with open hearts and minds, and to be able to demonstrate even greater statistical significance moving forward. Thanks for everything AmplifyChange !

A Proud Moment For All of Us Who Believe In Education

Loveness first came to our office as a grade 5 drop out, seeking education support after losing both her parents. At the time, she had been out of school for almost two years, with no one to advocate for her future. Although our education support program does not ordinarily provide scholarships at primary level, her story, intelligence, and determination deeply moved us, and we chose to stand with her through her difficult time.

Three years later, we are proud to share that Loveness successfully passed into Grade 8 (Form 1) with good results. She remained consistent in her performance throughout, proving that with resilience and commitment one can rise above even the most difficult circumstances.

Her journey inspires us to continue serving our community with compassion and courage. In a world that often makes it difficult for vulnerable children to succeed, there are determined young people like Loveness who challenge every obstacle placed before them with courage and hope.

We look forward to what the future holds for our Loveness and this post will be a great reminder when she achieves her goals. This is truly a proud moment for us all who believe in the power of education 💙✨! Thank you for your support.

Mondy is another example of our holistic, full-circle service. In 2018 Mondy came to us as a bright grade 10 pupil full of potential and deserving of scholarship. We sent her to a boarding school, got to know her through our twice-a-year supplementary curriculum workshop series, and eventually she passed grade 12 with confidence, self awareness, and good results. We then supported her through college. Today, as a licensed nurse, she is volunteering at our Health Facility, stepping in to help with monthly Underfive Growth Monitoring Clinics, and providing family planning as well as Voluntary Testing and Counselling for HIV to youth and the general public. We are so proud of you Mõñdy Mutamfya !

Serving Up Close, Not On Remote Control !

Some of the most powerful stories begin in the most unexpected places. We met Christopher on the streets of Kasama, searching for piece works and selling plastic bags in town, doing everything he could to raise money for school. Coming from a vulnerable home, his family simply could not afford to support his education.

Alongside two other boys, Christopher was invited to join our GLOWBFC Club and they showed up. As we spent more time with them, we learned their stories, their struggles, and their hopes and we made the decision to adopt them into our program even though they were in 5th Grade at primary.

Sadly, as time went on, two of Christopher’s friends stopped coming for unknown reasons but he never did. Life, circumstances, and family backgrounds affect each child differently. While our hearts wish they had continued attending our Saturday club meetings and receiving support from Bakashana, we understand that every journey is unique.

Christopher, however, persisted, worked so hard and stayed. He believed in his potential to succeed and so did we. Today, we are filled with tears of joy knowing that he passed well into Grade 8 ( Form 1) and will continue on our program.

His journey reminds us why our work matters. True service cannot be done on remote control. It requires proximity, relationship, and understanding. When we draw near to people, we get to understand their story and serve them better because we see them not as numbers, but as human beings.

Christopher’s resilience strengthens our resolve, and his success is a quiet but powerful testimony that when given a chance, a child can rise beyond their circumstances. We remain so grateful to those who sacrifice their time and resources to support us and those of you cheering us on🫂🫂💙!!

Gratitude, Reflection, and a Shared Vision Forward

For more than three years, Amplify Change has faithfully supported our work, and we are grateful and very proud of the many lives that have been reached through the GLOWBFC Project. As we approach the close of this grant phase, we pause to reflect with gratitude on the journey, the impact, and the partnerships that made it all possible.

Today, we hosted our Annual GLOWBFC Teachers’ Annual Review Meeting, an important space for learning, reflection, and growth. This meeting allows us to receive suggestions, better understand challenges, and celebrate the successes of our school clubs. Teachers from 31 schools came together, united by a shared vision to empower and protect young people and it was a productive meeting.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Amplify Change for the consistent support over the years and to the Ministry of Education for the continued collaboration and guidance. These meetings would not be a success without your commitment and partnership.

As we look ahead to 2026, we are challenged and motivated to ensure that our 31 school GLOWBFC clubs continue to meaningfully impact lives, strengthen communities, and create lasting change even as we expand our reach with Life skills and SRH curriculum.

Together, we move forward with purpose and hope!!

Gratitude for a Heart That Serves🙏

We are deeply grateful to Mrs. Mulube Collus Ng'ambi Mulube , one of the dedicated teachers from our partner schools, who generously donated sanitary towels to our organization. This thoughtful gesture will have a meaningful impact not just on our organization but on the dignity, confidence, and the well-being of the girls we serve.

Mrs. Mulube has walked closely with us since the inception of GLOWBFC in schools, consistently demonstrating compassion and commitment, to her pupils. Her kindness has not only been evident in her work with us, but through the many acts of service she extends within her own community. This donation is more than a gesture, it is a statement of care and solidarity with girls. We are sincerely thankful for her continued partnership and selfless heart.

Thank you, Mrs. Mulube. Your kindness will impact our girls, and your example reminds us of the power of collective responsibility in shaping a better future. 💙

Our mission is to empower youth to live a future of their choice.
Youth who move through our programs are equipped with the confidence and life skills to choose a partner who will respect them, to choose a path which brings them fulfillmet while they embrace their inherent gifts and talents in order to choose a life which brings the most benefit possible to themselves and those around them.
Pictured here is Gertrude who goes by Chali, she has been a beneficiary of our program since she was in Grade 8. Today, with our support, she is in her last year pursuing a BA of Fine Arts at Chalimbana University where she has moved forward with her unique gifts in confidence and service to those around her and the greater good! We are proud of you, Chali!

🎓✨ Introducing Our New Scholarship Grantees! ✨🎓

We are beyond proud to welcome our new scholarship recipients! Pictured here are 54 of the more than 117 grantees. This year’s selection process was highly competitive — with only about 50% of applicants being selected — a true testament to the determination, talent, and potential of the young people who applied. 💪📚

What made this year even more special is that we did something new:
🚗🌍 We travelled to 5 remote schools to conduct on-site scholarship screenings — bringing opportunity closer to students who are often hardest to reach and ensuring that no one is left behind because of distance or access.

To our new grantees: congratulations! You are not just scholarship recipients — you are leaders, change-makers, and the future of your communities. We are honoured to walk this journey with you. 💛

👏 Please join us in celebrating these incredible young people and the start of their scholarship journey!

In Memoiram...
Towards the end of 2025 we lost two clients.
Kelvin and Samuel were more than children with disabilities, they were children who chose to embrace their conditions, to be brave, and to serve as guiding lights to many of their peers.
Their laughter and love will always be a part of Place of Happiness. We will miss them dearly and we are grateful for the time spent with them. Rest in peace dear ones.💔🙏🏽
