Zambia records 569 cholera cases since outbreak!

Health Minister Dr. Elijah Muchima says Zambia has recorded 569 cholera cases since the outbreak began in August this year, with 9 deaths reported nationwide.

Delivering a ministerial statement in parliament this morning, Dr. Muchima disclosed that 556 patients have fully recovered and been discharged, while four patients are currently admitted, with only one patient under care as of yesterday morning.

Dr. Muchima has also told the house that a localized outbreak in Monze District of Southern Province has so far recorded 35 cumulative cases, but has assured that the situation is under control.

He has indicated that government’s major intervention has been the targeted cholera vaccination campaign, which he said has been pivotal in limiting the spread of the disease, with 125,858 people vaccinated so far in affected districts.

Dr. Muchima has since urged citizens, particularly in northern and southern provinces, to strictly follow preventive measures such as drinking treated water, practicing good hygiene, consuming safely prepared food, and seeking immediate medical attention at the first sign of symptoms.
