World Optometry Day is observed every year on March 23rd to celebrate the important role optometrists play in protecting and improving vision and eye health worldwide.

Optometrists are often the first line of defense in identifying eye problems before they become serious.

Simple ways to take care of your eyes:

1. Get your eyes checked regularly
2. Wear protective eyewear when necessary
3. Reduce screen time and take breaks
4. Eat a healthy diet rich in vitamins (especially Vitamin A)
5. Avoid self-medication for eye problems

“Your vision matters.get it checked today!” 👁️

World Head Injury Awareness

Every year on March 20th, we observe World Head Injury Awareness, a day set aside to educate, prevent, and support those affected by brain injuries.

Head injury is one of the most common causes of disability and death in adults worldwide. Every 7 minutes, someone loses their life due to a brain injury, making it a serious public health concern that demands awareness and prevention.

On this day, we are reminded of the importance of:

1. Wearing helmets and seatbelts
2. Practicing road safety.
3. Preventing falls, especially among children and the elderly.
4. Seeking immediate medical attention after any head injury.

Together, let’s raise awareness, promote safety, and protect lives. Every action counts.

World Kidney Day is observed every year on the second Thursday of March to raise awareness about the importance of kidney health and the prevention of kidney diseases.

Kidneys play a vital role in the body by removing waste, balancing fluids, and helping to control blood pressure.

Many people suffer from kidney disease without knowing it, which is why early screening and healthy lifestyles are important.

We encourage people to:

1. Drink enough clean water every day.
2. Eat a healthy and balanced diet.
3. Reduce salt and processed foods.
4. Exercise regularly.
5. Avoid excessive use of painkillers.
6. Control blood pressure and blood sugar levels. 7. Go for regular medical check-ups and kidney screening.

These actions help protect the kidneys and reduce the risk of kidney disease.

What is Glaucoma?

A group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, often linked to elevated eye pressure.

TYPES:
• Open-angle glaucoma – most common, develops slowly.
• Angle-closure glaucoma – less common, can occur suddenly and is a medical emergency.
• Danger: Vision loss is gradual and often unnoticed until advanced stages. Peripheral (side) vision is usually affected first.

Glaucoma is a silent but serious eye disease that can cause irreversible blindness if not detected early.
The best prevention is regular eye exams, especially for people at higher risk such as those with family history, diabetes, or over age 40.
Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight.” By spreading awareness and encouraging regular eye check-ups, communities can prevent avoidable blindness and protect future generations’ vision.
