Former President Edgar Lungu has made several promises to Zambians, contingent upon his re-election in 2026. These promises include:
1. Reducing Commodity Prices: Lungu vows to revert commodity prices to their original costs, similar to the prices before the UPND took office.
2. Increasing Civil Servant Salaries: He promises to raise civil servants' salaries by K2,000.
3. Eliminating Cadre Harassment: Lungu assures that cadres will no longer be allowed to harass citizens and will be arrested if caught doing so.
4. Direct Citizen Engagement: He plans to engage directly with citizens daily to hear their views and concerns.
5. Respecting Former President Hichilema: Lungu promises not to harass former President Hakainde Hichilema or his family members.
6. Ensuring Justice and Accountability: He guarantees that no one will be arrested without a thorough investigation and that the police and courts will operate independently without interference.
7. Fight Against Corruption: Lungu pledges to wage a fierce battle against corruption, targeting both the former government and the current administration, to ensure accountability and transparency.
8. Separation of Powers: He promises to uphold the principles of separation of powers, ensuring that the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government operate independently and efficiently.
9. Electrification and Road Development: Lungu vows to prioritize electrification and road development projects, aiming to ensure that Zambia becomes a food basket again and improves its infrastructure.
10. Ending Load Shedding: He promises to invest in the energy sector to end the persistent load shedding, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for citizens and businesses.
11. Food Security: He promises to implement policies and programs aimed at making Zambia a food basket again, ensuring that the country becomes self-sufficient in food production and becomes a major food exporter.
