Zambia Red Cross Society HQ(ZRCS) today, 13th December, officially launched its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan. The event was graced by Mr. Norman Chipakupaku, National Coordinator of the Disaster Management & Mitigation Unit - DMMU Mr. Chipakupaku expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership between ZRCS and DMMU during times of crisis, such as floods, droughts, and disease outbreaks. “ZRCS has consistently demonstrated preparedness, neutrality, and compassion. We recognize the countless volunteers who stand on the frontlines, often in difficult and dangerous conditions, to save lives and restore dignity. For this, we say thank you,” he said.
Speaking at the event, ZRCS National President, Mr. Martin Ng’onga, emphasized the need for transformation within the organization. “Let us transform how we prepare for disasters, using innovation and evidence, without transformation, which must begin with us, we will forever, as a National Society, be going backwards,” he said.
The Strategic Plan is anchored on four interconnected pillars that advance ZRCS’s mission to save lives, reduce suffering, and build resilient communities:
• Disaster Risk Management, Climate Change, and Resilience: Strengthening anticipatory action, preparedness, and rapid response by 2030 to reduce vulnerability and enhance community resilience.
• Health, Protection, and Community Resilience: Expanding equitable access to health, WASH, and protection services, with a focus on empowering women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
• National Society Development and Volunteer Engagement: Enhancing volunteer engagement, digital capacity, and retention to deliver high-quality, people-centered humanitarian action nationwide.
• Financial Sustainability and Adaptation: Increasing resilience through diversified funding, innovation, and digital transformation, reducing reliance on donors and boosting domestic financing.
The launch was also attended by 57 ZRCS branches across the country, 10 national governing board members and 10 provincial executive committee members.
