Southern Region is setting the pace for impact in 2026!

The region is currently hosting a dynamic two-day Prevention Refresher Training for Psychosocial Counsellors and Linkage & Retention Assistants from Livingstone and Choma sites. This capacity-building initiative is designed to strengthen index testing, improve linkage, and enhance retention outcomes in the 2026 financial year.

Led by Felistus Nalungwe (Prevention Program Coordinator Central), the training is being co-facilitated by MoH District ART Coordinator Madame Taonga Nyirenda alongside Stephen Ntengenibwino Phiri (Prevention Program Coordinator South), bringing together expertise and collaboration at its best.

This training was further honored by the presence of Francis Kasonde (Senior Prevention Program Manager), highlighting the importance of sustained leadership and commitment in driving program success.

Together, we are empowering frontline teams with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver impactful, client-centered services and strengthen health outcomes across the region.

Today, AHF Zambia hosted a Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing (PABS) Joint Press Conference with other civil society organizations at M’kango Golfview Hotel, bringing together key stakeholders to highlight the critical role of fair pathogen sharing and equitable access to health innovations.

This important dialogue emphasized how stronger Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing frameworks can help ensure that when outbreaks occur, countries, especially in Africa, are not only sources of pathogen data but also equal beneficiaries of vaccines, treatments, and technologies developed from them. Strengthening these systems is essential for protecting public health, improving pandemic preparedness, and ensuring Africa and Zambia are not left behind in global health responses.

Gracing the event as Guest of Honor was Hon. Joseph Munsanje, a member of the Parliamentary Health Committee, who reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between policymakers, civil society, and global health partners in building a fairer and more resilient health system.

Through initiatives like this, AHF Zambia continues to champion equitable health solutions and amplify Africa’s voice in global health governance.

Arise and Soar! 🌟 Youth Taking Charge of Their Future

Young people from across the country came together in an energetic and inspiring celebration as AHF youth representatives from various provinces commemorated Youth Day under the powerful theme “Arise and Soar!”

The commemoration brought together vibrant young leaders who filled the day with enthusiasm, creativity, and purpose. Through interactive discussions, peer engagement, and youth-led activities, the young people created a lively platform to celebrate their potential while reflecting on the important role they play in shaping healthier communities.

This year’s theme, “Arise and Soar!”, called on young people to rise above the challenges they face, embrace their voice, and step into leadership roles within their communities. It encouraged them to pursue healthy, informed, and productive lifestyles while becoming champions of positive change among their peers.

Throughout the event, participants shared ideas on issues affecting young people today — from strengthening peer support networks to promoting health-seeking behaviors and reducing stigma. The gathering also highlighted the importance of empowering youth with knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to lead community-driven solutions.

The atmosphere was nothing short of electric as young people celebrated their resilience, ambition, and collective power. With renewed motivation, they left the commemoration inspired to take action, uplift one another, and continue soaring toward a future filled with opportunity, leadership, and impact.

✨ When young people rise, communities soar.

🌍 The rules for the next pandemic response are being negotiated right now.

The WHO Pandemic Agreement was adopted in 2025—but it cannot move forward until the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) Annex is finalized.

Through our campaign EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity, we are calling on European leaders to support binding equity provisions so that vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments are shared fairly in future global health emergencies.

What is decided now will shape pandemic response for a generation.
