Dear Parents, Caregivers and Communities,
This week, the Ministry of Health has been conducting Child Health Week.

This is a golden opportunity to give our children under 5 years the BEST protection and care – completely FREE at all health facilities and outreach posts across the country.

During this Child Health Week, your child can receive:
✅ Vitamin A Supplemention.

✅ Deworming medication.

✅ Growth monitoring & nutrition screening

✅ Catch-up immunizations – including measles-rubella, polio, DPT, and others your child may have missed

✅ Health education on hygiene, breastfeeding, and danger signs

Every child deserves a healthy start in life.

One visit can protect them for months!
📅 Ongoing now – don’t wait until the last day!

📍 Find the nearest health facility or outreach point in your community.

Let’s work together to give every Zambian child the gift of good health.

Bring your child’s Under-5 card (or come even if you don’t have one – you will be helped!).

Earlier this year on the 31st May 2025, the Zambia Paediatric Association (ZPA) and the University Teaching Hospitals - Children's Hospital - Lusaka collaborated with PWC Zambia and hosted a run to raise funds for children with autism and children with other special needs.

Last Thursday, PWC handed over a sum of ZMW220,000 to the University Teaching Hospitals - Children's Hospital - Lusaka which will be used to procure equipment to enhance diagnosis in children with ear infections.

During the handover, the ZPA president, Dr Donald Mumba, encouraged cooperating partners and well-wishers to support such a cause, which would go a long way to improve the care of children with special needs.

The Zambia Paediatric Association (ZPA) and the Ministry of Health Zambia launched the Consolidated Guidelines for Childhood Cancer Care during the 2025 ZPA Scientific Conference.

The guidelines are intended to improve and strengthen early diagnosis and referral for treatment of childhood cancers in all hospitals. This will enable timely referral and give children with cancer a chance for a cure.

400,000 cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed globally, of which 80% are in low- and middle-income countries. Zambia sees approximately 434 new cases annually, from 0 to 14 years old. The Cancer Diseases Hospital (CDH) sees 180-250 new cases of childhood cancers aged 0-14 years old annually.

The launch was officiated by Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr Kennedy Lishimpi.

The Zambia Paediatric Association (ZPA) President, Dr Donald Mumba, at the recently ended 2025 ZPA Scientific conference and Annual General Meeting, highlighted the need for strengthening and accelerating the training of paediatricians and paediatric superspecialists and called for concerted efforts from partners to meet the fast-growing paediatric population (0-18yrs) in Zambia, which currently stands around 10 million.

🌟 *World Prematurity Day 2025*🌟

Today, on November 17th, the Zambia Paediatric Association joins the world in honoring the incredible resilience of our tiniest warriors—those precious preterm babies who arrive early but fight with the heart of lions. 💕

We see their stories unfold in our
NICUs: the quiet beeps of monitors, the tender touch of a parent’s hand through an incubator porthole, the whispered prayers for just one more day of growth. These little ones remind us that life begins not with a full-term cry, but with a spark of unyielding hope.

To every parent holding vigil, every nurse cradling dreams, and every family weaving strength from fragility—we see you, we celebrate you, and we stand with you. Your journey shapes brighter tomorrows.

This year’s theme, “*Give Preterm Babies a Strong Start for a Brighter Future,”* calls us to action: equitable care, family-centered support, and innovation that turns vulnerability into victory.

Let’s commit to giving every preterm baby in Zambia the nurturing beginnings they deserve.
And because knowledge is our greatest ally, don’t miss our special webinar TOMORROW, November 18th, from 16:00 to 17:00 CAT on Zoom!

Dive deeper into preterm care strategies, survivor stories, and practical tips for families.

Together, we’re building that brighter future, one heartbeat at a time.
