PRIMARY BILIARY CHOLANGITIS (PBC)

Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) is a silent liver disease that often starts with subtle signs like fatigue and persistent itching.
Early detection can slow progression, prevent complications, and protect your liver health.

If you notice unexplained itching, ongoing tiredness, or abnormal liver tests, don’t ignore it, get checked.

Your liver matters. Early care saves lives.

In today’s Departmental Medical Knowledge Sharing, we focused on Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP). presented by Dr Eithar (Gynaecologist)

Severe itching in pregnancy is NOT always normal.

If the itching is intense, especially on the palms of your hands and soles of your feet, and there is no rash, it could be ICP, a pregnancy-related liver condition that requires medical attention.

Early diagnosis and close monitoring can significantly protect both mother and baby.

If you’re pregnant and experiencing unusual or severe itching, don’t ignore it — seek medical evaluation promptly.

Your comfort matters. Your baby’s safety matters even more.

A strong partnership goes beyond collaboration, it’s about real impact, innovation, and measurable health outcomes.

We were honoured to support the team at the Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) through comprehensive on-site clinical services and an insightful health talk delivered by our Medical Director, Dr Sydney Mpisa, in collaboration with Partners Mircs Insurance Brokers.

From occupational health assessments and preventive screenings to real-time medical consultations, the engagement focused on early detection, risk reduction, and strengthening workplace wellness systems. Because proactive care isn’t optional, it’s essential.

At Royal Hospital, we champion strategic institutional partnerships that prioritise preventive medicine, optimise workforce productivity, and elevate overall employee well-being.

When organisations commit to structured health programmes, the outcomes speak for themselves, healthier teams, improved performance metrics, and a progressive culture of care.

ECG (Electrocardiogram): Simple test. Huge intel!

The ECG is one of the fastest and most important tools in cardiology.
In just a few minutes, it can give us valuable clues about your heart.

What can an ECG detect? • Heart attack (acute or old)
• Arrhythmias (AF, SVT, VT, heart block)
• Ischemia and poor blood supply
• Electrolyte disturbances (K⁺, Ca²⁺)
• Drug effects (digoxin, anti-arrhythmics)
• Structural heart disease clues

Important reminder:
A normal ECG does NOT always mean a normal heart.
Clinical symptoms + ECG + Echo + labs = correct diagnosis.

When should you do an ECG? • Chest pain
• Palpitations
• Dizziness or syncope
• Shortness of breath
• Hypertension or diabetes follow-up

📌 Early ECG = early diagnosis = better outcome.
