THE SILENT KILLER

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls in the body. Everyone has it and is not a bad thing in itself. High Blood pressure which is also called Hypertension is the Silent Killer

Blood Pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).

Normal Blood Pressure is below 120/80 mm Hg

Blood pressure is written as two numbers, such as 120/80 mm Hg.

The top/first number is called systolic pressure which is the pressure when the heart beats.

The bottom number/second number is called diastolic pressure which is the pressure when the heart rests between beats.

High Blood Pressure (HBP)/Hypertension means the pressure in your arteries is higher than it should be.

This excess force against your blood vessel walls can over time permanently damage organs, most often the heart, brain, kidneys, and eyes

Hypertension is a non communicable disease that is on the rise and everyone is at risk.

It is called a silent killer because many individuals do not know that they have High blood pressure due to no signs or symptoms exhibited until it reaches an advanced dangerous state.

When a severe stage is reached, the following symptoms are exhibited:

• Headache

• Visual disturbances

• Shortness of breath

• Nosebleeds

• Vomiting

• Convulsions

• Back pain

• Numbness

• Weakness

• Irregular Heart Beat

• Fatigue

• Dizziness

• Fainting

If you experiencing any of the above symptoms please visit your nearest Healthcare facility.

Despite being so dangerous, it can be managed.

Not treating high blood pressure is dangerous. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Make sure you get your blood pressure checked regularly.

Did you know that a 500ml bottle of Coca Cola contains more than 12 tea spoons (tsps) of Sugar.

If you take atleast 2 bottles a day thats a total of 24 tsps of sugar

24 tsps of sugar x 5 days a week= 120 tsps

120 tsps is equivalent to 0.6 kg of sugar

Drinks and foods high in sugar content can lead to weight gain, which is a risk factor for developing type 2 Diabetes.

If you are diabetic, it can lead to further complications.

For optimal health, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend consuming not more than 6 tsp of added sugar. By drinking just one serving of cola a day, a person will easily exceed this amount.

Unheathy Lifestyle choices are the leading cause of Noncommunicable Diseases such as Diabetes and Hypertension.

Take control of your Health by making healthy lifestyle choices
