Hydrocephalus is a condition where too much fluid builds up inside the brain.
In babies, this fluid puts pressure on the brain and can affect their growth and development. With timely treatment, many babies go on to live healthy lives.

Common signs to look out for include

1. A head that keeps growing faster than normal
2. Bulging or tense soft spot (fontanelle)
3. Vomiting
4. Irritability or constant crying
5. Trouble feeding
6. Sleepiness or weak muscle tone
7. Seizures in some cases

Dr. Kasonde - Resident Neurosurgeon, was part of the medical team that carried out 11 free brain surgeries on children aged between one month and ten years.
The surgeries were performed on December 26, 2025 , of which nine of the children were diagnosed with hydrocephalus, while two were treated for brain tumours, craniopharyngioma and a scalp tumour.

This initiative was led by Dr. Kachinga Sichizya Kachinga Sichizya, whose long-standing vision has been to make sure life-saving care reaches children who might otherwise go without it.

As the year comes to an end, we are thankful to see these young patients and their families stepping into the new year with renewed hope. There is no better way to close the year than knowing lives have been changed and futures given a chance to begin again.

This festive season, By His Stripes Medical Centre chose to give back in the most meaningful way by saving young lives.

Yesterday, Dr. Siame - Resident Neurosurgeon was part of the team that carried out free brain surgeries on 11 children, ranging from just one month old to 10 years of age. Nine of the children were diagnosed with hydrocephalus, while two were treated for brain tumours, craniopharyngioma and a scalp tumour.

This marks the third group of families from different parts of the country that By His Stripes Medical Centre has supported through free neurosurgical care.

This initiative was led by Dr. Kachinga Sichizya, whose vision has always been to ensure that life-saving care reaches children who would otherwise go without it.

What began as a simple desire to help has grown into a continued commitment to families across the country, especially those from rural communities where access to specialised care remains limited.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the entire medical team at By His Stripes Medical Centre for their endless commitment and passion to saving lives.
